Courtesy Robert Fisk........Independent.
This is politics not sport. If drivers can`t see that, they are in the pits.
When the Foreign Office advise racing fans to stay away from Bahrain, this is no sporting event. When Bahraini authorities
welcome sports reporters but refuse visa`s to other journalists something is very wrong in this Saudi dominated kingdom.
What do our lads.. say at the circuit...Button,Hamilton..nothing to do with us governor..Vettle..it`s a lot of Hype..what a
disgraceful man.
Have they not heard of the Arab Spring in Tunisia,Morroco,Eygpt,Libya Syria etc, etc.
Money and points on the table mean more.
Would Ecclestone slip over to Tehran/Syria if he got the invitation?

Ecclestone has followed the money and turned Formula One into a Pariah Sport.Double edge sword is the world now knows
that it is a horrid regime.Abdulhadi al-Khawaja tortured and hunger striker has died in prison on the day F1 teams and
Ecclestone leave the Island......F1 squirms in the spotlight...

Good for Bernie Ecclestone for not bending down to all the p.c. rubbish.
OK Bahrain is not a western style 'benign' democracy but they are pro-west and are far from being among the worse regimes in the Far East. If sporting events were to be restricted to benign democracies then they would be held in very few countries indeed.
Only a few years ago, after all, the Olympics were held in China and a while ago now in the old Soviet Union (1980 from memory). I see a lot of double standards over those who oppose his rightful decision to go ahead.

UK have been warned that the Arms sales to Bahrain must not be for internal
repression and human rights abuses.
There is a review of all arms export licences to states with authoritarian regime like
Bahrain.
It was also discovered UK sold counter-submarine hardware to Argentina.
What a shambles....not holding breath on Bahrain.....

[In the current issue of PE, page 29]
The government released 180 pages of heavily redacted e-mails as-per a FoI request.
An early e-mail entitled: "Inviting Bahrain to DSEi 2011"* revealed...
"There may be one or two companies promoting riot control equipment."
*
The arms show:Defence and Security Equipment international.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Bahrain Sunni regime has the `latent protection` of the US and UK.but still the
demonstrations continue for democracy.
50 people have been killed in the last year.
There is no chance of democracy for the Bahrain people while we support and supply
arms to this dictatorship....not holding breath....
