Can anyone shed any light on the mysterious Aycliffe demolition conspiracy?
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/east_kent_mercury/news/demolition-work-being-investigated-7573/
I wonder if it's the same 3 chuffs that sorted out the old MFI building...

No mystery on this demolition going on today, sad sight for those who remember The Hope in better times.

As I said at the time the council should have taken it over for a sit in centre with shop and post office ,but you did not like that one.I looked into funding for my plan there was some funding about at that time other parish councils had done it.

No use applying for funding until you have got the building - we applied for Asset of Community Value listing but
it got refused.
The law allowing communities to do that only became available two years after permission to demolish was granted so wouldn't have made any difference in this case.

If the Parish Council had actually SUPPORTED Vic, perhaps the building could be saved.
Instead of pulling on other cords and the whole lot comes tumbling down.

Permission for the demolition was agreed in Jan 2011, before Vic was on the parish council.

That would be a new experience, a thread keeping to the heading.

Ray, didn't the Parish community try to put forward a petition, or make representations, to keep the building?
Does a parish council actually have any decision at all withing its own area?
Do planning offices at district level just do what they want without consulting local residents?
Does a parish just allow its heritage to be ripped down?
Is the standing maxim: "there is nothing you can do about it"?

Alexander, the parish didn't put forward a petition as that's not the appropriate way, but so many objected through the proper planning process that a site meeting was held where over 30 people attended.
There's a lot more that happened (and is happening) that I won't bore everyone with but parish councils are only consulted on planning, they have no powers at all. But we do keep a look out for what is happening in our parish, as Chris Precious did in Aycliffe.

Yes, Ray, in fact I know that, even if so many protested through the proper planning process, the planning office ignored it all.
They usually do when it comes to ripping down and redevelopment.
We need the "Local Referendum on Local Issue" law.
That's what I will be voting for come next General Election.
Without it, all public consultation is as good as useless.

Post 11 is very wrong I was on the council before that and was at the meeting when they told us all that they had just got planing to pull it down also wrong about about no funding at the time I said the council should take it over,I had already seen what funding was about at that time and was told if the parish council came forward with a plan about the building the help with funding might be found,so again get it right before posting please.

I won't get involved in the inter Lydden parish council affairs although those living there would probably know what went on.
Nor get in the way of ego's
