10:1685120the two candidates that did best were gordon and vic, both used the forum to good effect.
the other two candidates did not post, did not use the local press, maybe there are lessons to be learned?

10:4185123Paul B I posted the result last night stating the Alliancce won the Town Castle Seat
I cannot agree with you on that comment Howard .For many years the County seat was held by Labour last time round the Conservatives won it now Gordan has regained the seat he once held .
With all the cuts etc the National government is not going to be popular .The County seat is made up with some of the most areas of deprivation ..
OUr chap was new it takes time to get known .
We did ok in Temple Ewell and we did not use the Forum .In fact if you look at the postings from Conservative Councillors you will see we observed the rules of pudah .

10:5085125I have to disagree with you Keith - the Conservative have nothing to worry about here if you look at the history of Dover's KCC seats. Relative to that we did well with this result. Naturally it would have been good to hang on to the seat.
I actually disagree with Roger as well because I do not think that normal rules applied. I suspect that the 'protest vote' went to UKIP. There is always a part of the electorate who avoid the difficult decisions but feel they should vote and tend to vote normally LD. Given LDs are now in government it would be logical for that protest vote to go to UKIP. No doubt that some LDs went Labour as well to give them a boost.
Howard - the Forum had no effect at all.... strange interpretation of the result I have to say.

10:5485127i don't know what the rules of purdah are susan, you mention about a candidate "getting known", surely they should be "making themselves known".
pat is a member here, gordon is not yet but the latter issued press releases.
last time around nigel got 2825 votes gordon got only 1781, yesterday' result was quite a turnaround.
for vic to get 400 in a county council election representing a party that is viewed as a single issue national party, shows the value of self promotion.

If you have sussed it and it comes to fruition, I've got a card that might trump yours and am ready to play.
