23:0485073the polls have closed leaving thousands outside queuing in the snow, denied their chance to deliver their opinion.
in a few hours we will know if victor has crossed the rubicon and continues his march to downing street.
what hope that the universal franchise has provided a 90% turnout?

23:2985076I didn't go. I'm not bothered.
But at the end of the day you won't hear me moan.
I'll leave all the whinging and whining to our polo's on here and hear the same old drivel again and again and again.
Good luck to whoever.

23:5585082With today's awful weather and public apathy vote counting should be very, very fast. I only voted because I have a postal vote otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
I think tomorrow's forum will be full of the political bods either saying "boo hoo I was robbed" or "I told you so".

01:3085090If Vic did better than expected at County he will be guilty of letting Labour in by default. Probably not the Plan B he had in mind.

01:4985095It is interesting that the town wards, which voted for the County seat, did not vote the Conservative party. This smacks of a certain thumbs-down on local Conservative Port policy.

01:5185096The very low turn out doesn't do this local policy any benefit either

06:0985097County result:
Labour 1491 - 43.7%
Conservative 1348 - 39.5%
UKIP 404 - 11.8%
LD 170 - 5%
Turnout 16%
Alexander
Dover Town has been a Labour stronghold for a lot of years and Roger Frayne gained the seat with a massive swing, bigger than that achieved by Charlie which, in the General Election, was itself one of the highest in the country.
The Conservatives should be very pleased with that result which in normal times would be quite an achievement in Dover Town. But, having won it for the first time recently, will have some disappointment at not holding on. It certainly was close.
The LD vote collapsed, not surprisingly - a Deal candidate did not go down well.
Vic did well getting what he did but on a low turnout I am not at all surprised.
Everyone should remember that by-elections are 'funny beasts' and one held so close to Christmas on a dark, wet windy day more than most. No surprise at the low turnout, pretty much what you can expect this time of year. There is a by-election in Norfolk on the 23rd December - Iwonder if they will get as much as a 10% turnout!
Well done to all candidates.
I have no other results as I was not at the count and just had those emailed to me last night.

07:3985098Gordon Cowan has won the Kent County Council seat for Labour, the election was called owing to the death of Cllr Roger Frayne(con) and was a snap election before the vat and savage cuts take effect in the New Year, the election could have been called upto May but the ruling group decided to go early and got a bloody nose.
In a very poor turn out(which normally hits Labour Candidates) due to the time of year and the dreadful weather conditions and saw only 3400 vote.
Barry has given the result and the per centages.
The result was a turnround of nearly 1000 votes as the Conservatives lead of 800 went red by 140,UKIP finished 3rd for the first time and the Liberal vote slumped.
Clllr Cowan told me last night, the only reason why the election was called so quickly is because the Tories knew it was their only chance before the job and services cuts and vat rises came in,he thanked his supporters and his election team.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

07:5985099The UKIP vote of 404, which normally comes from disaffected Conservatives voters gave labour the seat.
Tactical voting doesn't come into play here in Dover.

10:0085116Here goes then
firstly on the county seat, if i were a tory or more so lib dem last night should be a worry.
vics result in that election surprized me, and the lib dems total collapse will do little to restore confidence in the party.
yep the turnout was poor, but that was the tories hoping they could whisper there way back in but this time it back fired.
well done gordon
also well done vic for picking up those votes and beating the lib dems
on the District there was never any doubt and as expected in a safe tory area the conservative was returned
then in castle after the tories gave the alliance a free run the alliance won the seat
all confusing now as we have ex alliance supportring tories in kcc elections
alliance cllrs no longer alliance now indy
and if you was a tory in castle yesterday your candidate wasnt at the races.
no one doubted the low turnouts
and well done to all who took part and of course the winners
