So the Police have arrested Mark Bridger for the murder of this poor little girl. What an awful, awful tragedy to befall her, her family and the community of Machynlleth. May God rest her soul and lead us all to understand what caused this disgusting crime.

For the police to say murder they must have some evidence of her death otherwise the charge would surely have been abduction, possibly why they stopped all those wonderful volunteers helping a couple of days ago. A very sad outcome for the family and all those concerned in the search.

i stopped following it after the first day, if a child is not found then the outcome is usually the worst one. i find it too harrowing when we see the parents making appeals.

How many times does the public cry bring back hanging,it is the only thing that will slow down murders,we see it in the papers each day of the week now, just like a robbery,or the taking of a car. But the powers to be never even talk about it in the house. It will not stop all murders but as I said there will be less, and some would still be living today....

Against all the odds, and against the thought of continued harm, I have hope yet that the Police may be wrong.

[Victor, now is hardly the time to follow the prospect of one death with the hope of many more.]

1700 hours tomorrow the clock runs out then it is charge him or release him, it is possible to charge murder without a body and to convict but to do so they will need really good evidence. Can only imagine the hell the little girls family are going through.

Not particularly liberal, but this man should be put to sleep in a slow and painful way.

Yes Chris I agree, assuming he is guilty of course.

Whilst I agree that capital punishment should be debated again, I believe the focus should be in finding out exactly what happened before recriminations begin. I've only ever openly cried once with these sort of cases, and that was reading the paper when the full story of Jamie Bulger's torture was revealed; how people can carry out such cruelty to an innocent is quite beyond me.

Perhaps children should be left to be children, and enjoy a childhood.
Not, as is increasingly the case, cash-calves and parent-pestering-profit-producers.
Elsewhere here there is talk of the Beatles and the early days of rock-n-roll, and again of the (vast) age difference between the 'stars' and their fans. - a playful coming together of child and adult - that does not always work out well.
Maybe we could begin by (re)introducing a middle-school, between primary and secondary?

If not the death penalty, if someone is guilty of such a crime then LIFE imprisonment with HARD LABOUR of some form or other in prison.
And I agree with Tom, children should be left to be children and enjoy their childhood but be brought up with discipline.

The accused has made a short tearful appearance at the local Magistrates, to confirm his name, address and DOB, all of which has been reported. He was remanded into custody until he appears before a Judge next week.

Habeas Corpus is a thing of the past for him as he has been charged.
