UNEMPLOYMENT.
If, for the sake of argument, the UK (Plc, the economy etc.,whatever you wish to call it) Is a cottage in the forest.
There is a fire-place and a cooking range, and the ambient temperature can fluctuate wildly from hot to cold.
Should the occupiers of the cottage use good-husbandry to sustain the woodland around them in order to be assured of a ready supply of fuel when the mercury is low?
Or is it more wise to fell the trees and stack the fuel nearby?
It strikes me that the latter course is the preferred option. The forest is denied a life of it's own. It's single purpose is seen to be as conveniently ready for use as fuel as can be. That at some stage the fuel is seen to have rotted away, that is (somehow, anyhow) seen as the fault of the fuel itself.
If it does not wish to be of use, then let it rot!
We must as a Nation (Democratic entity) strive to sustain what we have and follow our course with this 'Fact' at the forefront of our minds instead of turning all energy to provide ease for the few.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

what do we consider genuine?
the figures reg quotes are from figures based on whether the claim is genuine, if someone is unemployed and not doing cash in hand work then it is genuine.
there is a grey area where the long term unemployed can be put into 3 categories.
a) career layabout.
b) someone who has lost a job and has no luck in finding new employment, these people lose confidence in themselves after getting so many knock backs they just give up.
c) a select few are simply unemployable, we all know at least one.

Everyone on this forum and many thousands of others in this country, totally agree with the first sentence in your post #38, me included.
So why do you constantly use this pointless comment, in a thread that is about genuine people, like Rogers brother and other genuine people trying to survive on benefits through No fault of their own?

ah yes howard you beat me to it,but i would have put it slightly differant.i thought of 4 levals.
1,the lazy who dont want to work.
2,those who want to work but have a job to find work.
3,those who want to work but given up finding any.
4,those that are at a certain age [55+] who want to work but are told they are to old.and advised to take early retirement.

Agreed.
However, mine was not a dig, it was an observation that when you are referring to fraud, you always refer to benefit cheats and rarely tax cheats.
Which in every aspect, the Tax cheats are more prevalent and more costly to our economy than Benefit cheats.
Both are wrong but one is more damaging than the other.

Gary - every time tips are not declared, every time a tradesman offers a discount for cash or one is accepted without that income being declared is tax evasion, the illegal kind. It is not always complex schemes by the rich and these small fiddles amount to a lot of people and a lot of dosh. Not to mention working 'on the black'. It will never be stamped out. The welfare budget is a massive one and there are a lot of people cheating on that too and that is actually more economically damaging. I have never said any of it is anything other than wrong.
I do, however encourage everyone to do all they can and take advantage of every legal method of stopping the taxman from pinching their hard earned dosh.
