Amy Winehouse, troubled lass
caught between syringe and glass
won acclaim, aged 20, with her debut album, Frank.
Said "No!" to re-hab, into drink and drugs she sank.
I don't think I have been back to the Hawley Arms since the fire. It was a regular haunt of mine for a Saturday's shopping at 'The Lock'. A very pleasant little bar, Happy days.

Sad?
What is sad is the loneliness of it all. Famous yet friendless. More should be done to root-out the parasitic hangers-on.
Perhaps it is the nature of businesses such as this. Businesses that rely on one individual or small group for their earnings that precludes management from taking a hand in the welfare of the 'star'.
Maybe performers should (be allowed) to take more of a hand in the business that is them to keep them grounded and to meet and interact with people not directly involved in the music. But, pedestals are there for the falling-off of.

I probably saw you in there too back in the day Tom. It was one of my locals and shopping in Camden Lock on a Saturday was something I was brought up with!

They did a good job on the refurb after the fire.
It's sad that so many people used and abused her.

[forgive me, a stranger. But] Is that not Dover's Local-Hero's pub?
Jean, in my day the pub was run by a rather avuncular RAF type chap. Handle-bar moustaches and all. The whole place was full of good cheer as I recall...that might've been the good beer though.

it is run by a local hero, gentleman of the press no less.
never off of the television and is always referred to as a dover pub landlord.
even roger with a full tourism budget could not get the publicity for the town that paul has.

There is some debate about it but either way I think it's lovely.
