just received this in from the priory forum
All,
There will be a meeting on Tuesday 6th September at 7.30pm, St Martin's Hall, Church Road, Dover, to discuss the clean up.
We were able to get funding from the Community Safety Partnership and the proposed date for the clean up is Saturday 17th September at 10.00am. If we don't get it finished then we propose a follow up on the next Saturday (24th). We are finalising the letter to be put through the residents doors and hopefully I'll send this to you prior to the meeting for you to look at.
Roger and Carol of the Malvern Pub have kindly agreed to provide a small buffet and soft drinks afterwards for everyone who has helped - funded by the grant we have received.
There will also be a small design competition for the children - create a "don't litter your area" style poster. The prize will be an Argos voucher and having their winning design being made into posters to be put up in the area. The idea behind this is to encourage them to be bothered and hopefully they will educate their families.
I'll be setting up an email account and facebook page especially for this event - details to follow.
Please let me know if you can attend the meeting and whether or not you'll be joining us on the mammoth task of cleaning up the alleyways. It would be great to see you all - could you all please spread the word to anyone who may be interested. We'll be putting up a few posters in the local shops but we need as much free publicity as possible.

Well done Howard, thanks for putting it up.
Jenny and I have been composing the letter to go through people's letter-boxes whose gardens back on to the alleyways.
Mine was too wordy, so we're going to make it shorter and snappier.
I hope you can help Howard and perhaps ask anyone you know, if they can come along to clear these alleyways.

The clean-up went very well yesterday; despite the rain, we had I understand, around 30 people so managed to get both alleyways cleared of rubbish.
The veolia truck was late, but in the end we had two of them. All sorts of rubbish was removed, from mattresses, armchairs, a fridge I believe and much much more.
A big Thank-You to everyone who helped; the ones known, are Councillors Sue Jones, Pam Brivio and Roger something who now lives in Aycliffe, but represents Maxton, Elmsvale and Priory on the Town Council.
Thank you Howard for helping and Jenny Woodbridge the PF Secretary and her husband Mike.
Residents came out to help as we went along but many were there to start the clean-up.
Excellent to see many people wanting to clean the area and give their support, despite getting soaked a number of times - a BIG Thank You to them, .
DDC's Community Development officer Una Mills was also there and got stuck in.
A huge help was a local landlord who has properties in the Clarendons - Glenn Virtue; he has a little open truck that could get along there alleys where the bigger dustcarts couldn't and most of the stuff was carried by Glenn's little truck - he didn't mind getting his hands dirty too - thanks again to Glenn.
The Malvern Pub were great, Carol there provided some great food and drink - very much appreciated - Thank You Carol and Roger (yes, another one).
Some others I don't know the names of, but they were all special and their help was very much appreciated. If I've not mentioned anyone, I'm sorry - you were great.

Thank you for putting that up Howard.
We had much fewer people helping yesterday, but we managed to clean a lot of the weeds and overgrowing branches etc. and picked up some more rubbish.
We had finished by about 12.45 and went for a refreshing drink (soda water and lime cordial for me - honest !); Veolia came about 1.30 pm and collected it all and I took a couple of pictures of both alleys from the Malvern Road end. Looks brilliant even if I say so myself.

i had to be somewhere else yesterday morning roger, it didn't look like much more needed to be done, maybe other thought the same hence the low turn out.
i walked both alleyways during the week and both looked superb, just some vegetation needed attention.
wel done again to you and jennie for negotiating the red tape and getting it organised, amazing what can happen if the community comes together.

It was the vegetation we worked on Howard. The trouble was I was working on the alley as if it was part of my own garden and trying too hard to make it look good.
In some areas, the vegetation had mounted up over the months or years and it would now require a small digger to clear it, which of course we can't run to. Buying a petrol strimmer would be a great help on these kind of clean-ups, especially on the weeds and long grass.
There is still much to do for the area and I do have ideas that will benefit everyone, but I want to develop them before I publish anything.
Thanks again Howard.

Yes a great job there by all accounts, well done to all, a nice photo there in the feature from thisiskent too. I certainly recognise some of them faces in the frontline..those guys on the right there wield a mean brush so they do.
