it is advisable to avoid the above as hgv's are stacking up yet again.hgv drivers are using roundabouts to do a u-turns to rejoin dock bound traffic.back as far as the bp gararge and building as I type.

Tomorrow is one of the busiest days of the year as people try to beat the rush with an early getaway for Easter, the port usually copes well but the A20 is best avoided if at all possible.

Nearly got side swiped this afternoon by a foreign hgv at snargate roundabout and this was whilst a copper was standing there. The standards of hgv drivers from some countrys is unbelievable at times.

Just had a calll from Brian who cannot get onto the Internet, apparently the A20 is not moving and is backed up as far as Folkestone. Police at the York St roundabout but not at the others. Jubilee way is at a standstill too.

You know what? I'm going to stay indoors and tackle a big pile of ironing. I find that far more exciting than being in tailbacks and traffic jams . Thanks for the info Brian and Howard

Just to put an additional aspect to this problem; I was contemplating one of my regular visits to the town, but with all the reported problems decided to cancel. - to me that just means coming at some other time - which I would do anyway - to Dover it's the loss of 3 days hotel accommodation plus additional expenditure locally - meals, drinks taxi fares etc. multiply that loss by ? For each person put off by this congestion!
Just a thought.

The loss to businesses is incalculable, we keep hearing traders complaining about regular customers going elsewhere because of the problem.

And it's compounded by radio and tv travel bulletins telling everyone how bad the traffic is- even when it isn't.

Last night at 6pm the queue for Whitfield roundabout started at Coldred, and at 10pm all the A20 traffic was coming via Folkestone Road and York St.
This morning Simon Calder on BBC Breakfast was advising anyone wanting a last minute short European break over Easter to avoid trains and planes and travel via Dover, as the only route with spare capacity - look out!
Edit - post above appeared as I was typing, they obviously took his advice

just got back from a quick trip to town, the problem is I got to town ok via miliatry hill,it was coming back along snargate street with lorries using roundabouts for u-turns.the good news part is the police are on York street and union street diverting lorries away of the roundabout.no police at limekiln street absolute chaos until you get to western hieghts roundabout with police manning it.

I've just attempted to come down Jubilee Way and had to turn round because the (DHB ?) Police were stopping traffic from entering the docks from both the A20 Townwall Street and Jubilee Way, so nothing was moving. The queues were building up quite quickly too.
I would guess that most of the cars trying to come down Jubilee Way were not going into the Docks, but were stuck behind the lorries and going no where; quite a few did the same as me and turned round and went round the back of the Castle.
Pity they can't change going down Jubilee into a two-lane road as nothing was coming up, this way at least local traffic can still move.

We really do have the worst and most stupid highway management people in Europe. Have just read a sign on the road by the A20 on the road from Capel to Dover saying in English that the road had no access to the docks through Dover. All they had to do was put a sign showing a truck with a red line through it and every truck driver would have understood it, but putting it in English is absolutely pointless as most HGV drivers heading for the docks would not have a clue what it says.

Anyone know when will traffic stop being diverted along Folkestone Road every night?
