Being of a vindictive nature, especially when caught in a queue of traffic on the A20, I have often wondered how things might go if the police were to turn every french registered vehicle around and put them to the back of the queue making them the very last to be allowed to travel. Would they perhaps have a word with their striking brethren to get them to protest in a different way. Imagine the outcry, probably even by human rights activists, who we could then remind of the 'burning lamb' incidents in france in the past with the police turning a blind eye.
I know it could never happen, but wouldn't it be fun ?

clamping them might be a good idea.

Barrie, they would just block the M20 with their trucks. If considered necessary, they would then overturn a few and set fire to them. There's a fundamental difference between the French striking man and the British. When Paris taxi drivers strike they spend the day manning burning barricades and torching each others' cars. When London taxi drivers strike, they spend the day taking disabled children to the seaside.

It seems to be accepted that this situation will go on all summer, Truckers and Ferry companies losing vast sums of money and the shops running out of things to sell.

both sides of the argument are right, when the lights are being used, all roundabouts are clear.when they are stood down its chaos.
the down side is the continuing noise problem [ horns blasting 24/7 ],along with the smell of diesel fumes wafting over the wall.
what needs to be done is both to work in conjuction, aycliffe lights/police and op stack.

Have spoken with some port police officers. They are short of staff and coping the best they can. I watched them at the York Street roundabout this evening for more than half an hour. I admire the courage of these guys and girls who put themselves in front of 44tonne trucks with stroppy drivers in the course of duty. I would estimate that over 25% of trucks turning up at York St had to be sent back as they had not been through Stack. Witnessed one Italian trucker threatened with arrest and one driver who looked as if he was going to run down the WPC who was directing him to go back. She stood her ground.

Traffic was queued all the way up the town to Whitfield Hill yesterday morning, presumably traffic avoiding the M20/A20?

There is a petition on line via Change.org re Operation Stack. Yes traffic was congested at top of jubilee way, presume motorists using M2 and A2 which clearly cannot cope either. Let's hope things get back to normal by next weekend, one of the busiest in the year

It's just been reported that smoke has been seen rising from the entrance to Calais port and access from the A16 has been blocked.

Just read on la Voix du Nord that strikers from the MyFerryLink SCOP have put barricades of burning tyres on the rocade portuaire blocking it in both directions. This follows a decision issued this morning to put the SCOP into forced judicial liquidation i.e. bankruptcy. This could get worse as some of the strikers have warned on social media that if this happens they will scuttle the Berlioz and the Rodin in the harbour mouth.

I'd be interested to see that considering they have already knackered the engines, the law must allow these strikers to be arrested, what with trespass, criminal damage, environmental pollution must be more they could throw at them and what do they hope to achieve certainly won't be getting there jobs back and who would employ them after the way they have carried themselves.
