That's a shame, I remember hearing the Swingtime Sweethearts, they can really belt out some of the old boogie woogie songs from the forties era, all for a great cause too .

What a shame. I have just left my ship for my two weeks off and came straight on this thread to see where to get tickets for myself and Chris only to find that it had been cancelled. I am sure that the Town Hall would have been packed if there had been time to get the word out.

I know I'm going to kick myself for this.
The reason given was LACK OF TICKET SALES and a certain little bit of non advertising.
IF you know any different Vic please enlighten us all, I'm sure were all waiting for our jaws to drop.

I still think it was down to costing,as I said at this time £12.50 is alot to find ,so if my wife and myself went that is£25 +cup tea etc so looking at £30 or more, and as a lot of O.A.P. like ourselfs like to go,that is alot to take out of the pension heating,Gas,rents, food, must always come first,if any left over, then we can look at anight out,Mr Williams went on to say the cost of a ticket was the same as last year, that might be so,but same can not be said about the cost of living, and our pension not going up only by a few pence,so that is it in a bag.If it is to go ahead next year then the tickets must come down, also if any others out there are reading this and are thinking about puting on a event next year,or even the last few weeks of this one, then you must keep the cost of going down to the min,or do not try to put it on in the first place.

The cost of everything is relative, I think in this day and age £12.50 for quality live entertainment is quite acceptable just think how much a theatre trip to London or even nearby Canterbury costs. Most pensioners I know with just their state pensions put something by each week for the odd treat it all depends what you call a treat I suppose and how long you want to save.

Dont forget this event was to support two worthy causes .The Hellfire Corner Association everyone enjoys the event they put on in Pencester and The Royal British Legion who do so much to support our armed service personnel..I know serveral friends who save to attend shows in London.

As a member of the Royal British Legion,I am sorry this event is not going ahead, but the facts are there all to see that the costs of this event and any event that might follow have to be in line or below the cost of living,Ie --bus pass etc to help the .O.A.P. who are not well off,and have to look at where to spend.Post 28 ,I do not know what that has to do with it at all.

At the end of the day Vic, costs are costs. Last year we had a great attendance at that price but, to be fair, as the 11.11.11, it was a very special date and that needed to be taken into account.
I was surprised, to be fair to you, that they decided to keep the price the same as I thought they may reduce it and reduce some costs, perhaps they will next year.
The big problem though was time, it just did not have enough time to promote the tickets. You need more than 2/3 weeks for something like that to get sales going and in addition it is also a weekend of bonfire parties which did not help. The wrong weekend, too little time....
Next year will be different I am sure as they will have more time.

Vic, you complained the event was too expensive so I compared the cost with a London show which one saves for a while to see.
