On the contrary Roger - they are making great headway. The Afghan security forces are now taking the lead in some areas.
Find on DVD or on e-player the latest documentaries on what is going on. The C5 Royal Marines:Mission Afghanistan shows that (and is a particularly well done warts and all documentary) and also Ross Kemp's third front-line series. These have been recently filmed on the front-line.
My concern though is that the crazy US serviceman, come murderer, will have set all that progress back.
This is a most dangerous time for our lads to be out there given all recent events. I do not believe, although I desperately want to, that they are as well equipped as they can be for the job. But they are highly skilled professional, very brave, guys, and we can only hope for the best, support them as best we can, and look forward to their return.

My concern as well, Barry. The average Afghan villager cares not whether a Western soldier is British or American.
Agreed Bern. All the best to your son-in-law and all his colleagues.

This serves as a moving footnote to this thread and shows people are still prepared to come out and support the troops.
http://news.sky.com/home/uk-news/article/16189987Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
