  How about this, it's not a second as used in a measure of time but as in a measure of latitude - and one of the several New York's (one in Iowa?) is less than second in latitude different from San Francisco.

  Cross posted on that one Howard - all I can think now along these lines is the difference is in astronomical units not earth units - going for a beer, my brain hurts!

  All you have to do is buy a jet airliner and name it 'One Second Or Less'. Actually a car or hovercraft would do too, come to think of it.
  
  Either that or you are travelling near lightspeed. Brakeing might be a problem though.

  A big clue, hence the meal deal halved above. It`s wrapped up in religion, but nothing to do with the pope or Vatican etc, but the new American christian movement, and it`s teaching`s. In fact, there was a flare up over here around 2005 involving Tony Blair and Sir somebody and it`s teaching`s in North Eastern England schools. Evidently, it became a police investigation, corruption I think? Anyway, a mathematical comparison to what this new religion is teaching.

  These people reckom the Earth was formed 6,000 years ago, standard geological theory is it was formed 4.54 billion years ago, so if apply the ratio of these to the time taken to travel from New York to Los Angeles then you end up with less than a second - except I can't get the maths right as I don't know whether you're travelling by plane, train or horse and cart. His Noodliness would know I'm sure

  Or in simpler terms Ray, stating that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, like these Christian`s believe(?), is exactly the same as saying New York and San Francisco are 7.8 yard`s apart, which is of course ridiculous. Well done mate, just email me and we`ll sort your winning`s out.

  Thanks Colin - I think if my wife hadn't just put dinner on the table as I was posting I might have put it a bit clearer - assume 5 hrs journey by plane, that's 300 minutes, 18000 seconds. Divide by 756666 (the by the ratio of geological to creationist time) and the answer is about a quarter of a second - EDIT, no it's not, got my decimal point wrong, it's a tenth of that
