Josh - can you send me an email (lindenrog@aol.com) so I have your address, I have looked on your profile and there isn't one there and the only way to email EKR, doesn't allow for attachments.
Thanks Josh.

Hi Josh. I'm considering bringing the family to Shepherdswell on the train from Dover Priory to the Santa Special to avoid parking issues and making it more of a day out.
One service would get us there with minutes to spare, but this would cause trouble if there was a delay, so I would use the earlier train which gets us in an hour early. Not knowing the EKR, can you please confirm if there would be anything to amuse 3 children for an hour?

Hi Gary, there will be a lot to keep you going for an hour! We are just opening an Express Tea Bar in some old carriages where you can relax and hae a cup of tea, or you can visit our nice warm cafe for some food! There will be a miniature railway running around to entertain the kids, as well as a fanastic model railway, gift shop and museum. We have a large woodland walk, but this could be a bit too long, although you could do it on the way back!

Just a quick update, we are currently installing some log cabins in our large woodland area in Shepherdswell where we intend to invite Scout groups and run classes. We will be transforming the woods into an area where families can come and enjoy themselves with all the facilities that they need. So it's not just a train ride!
Progress is good but we really need more volunteers, so if you can spare any time at all, please come and join us!
Also, follow us on Twitter of Facebook to keep right up to date with the latest news. @EastKentRailway

Josh has just about said it all; it really is an hidden gem.
Most people are disappointed when they first visit EKR, not because they are not impressed but because they go away wishing they had found it earlier and feel they have missed out on something special, on their own doorstep.
With the mainline station right on its doorstep, it is perfect for a day out with a family train ride, leaving behind the stress of driving and parking, to step back in time and enjoy the experience.
If you do go by car for the first time, I can guarantee that when you drive down the lane towards the Shepherdswell Station and turn right into EKR, you will have a lovely surprise and a smile on your face.

That's always a good one, we aim to make them bigger and better every year, but we can only do this if our revenue increases, hence why we need to be discovered

This is the sort of leisure facility I had in mind on the Old MFI thread that should be promoted and helped by DDC. Locals and visitors would flock to it time after time if it was open on a day by day basis but that would cost money and time that could not be covered on their own by EKR's wonderful volunteers. If EKR could link up in some way with the Transport Museum so much the better.

Hi Jan, we link up with the Transport Museum several times a year with our vintage vehicle rallies, which usually sees a vintage bus connecting the two venues.

That would be fantastic, perhaps if the Linking the Line project takes off, this could be something that we could do in the future!

Jan.
We are beginning to work with many local heritage groups and local business and one of our Ideals is that we will become a hub for all local heritage and other groups, to work together and help each other and when we are a few years down the line and successful, we can even help them financially.

I hope the plans come to fruition as that is such a good idea.
