Not additional cash Ross, but can it be said that it is cash+assistance? The talk is of grass-roots action by and for the people of the specified area and their environs. Perhaps there will be a meet & greet session with the POs early in the new year.

Hi Tom - see my post #40 above - before judgements are cast we need to meet the facilitators etc and see what can be done, is expected of the community etc.

Too many judgements are already being made when this is something rather unprecedented in Dover so we will just have to wait and see...
Been nice knowing you :)

Good news - it looks like a number of different groups have already contacted the Big Local team and they will be meeting me and others next week to discuss how we get involved and how we can get the ball rolling on the "community engagement" part of the process

Had a very good meeting yesterday with Carl from Big Local - thanks to him for listening.
This is such an exciting opportunity for the 7000ish residents in the area covered to have a real say in how their community is shaped over the next 10 years and beyond. There are also some amazing opportunities for funding over and above the £1m from partners of Big Local that could make a huge difference.
It is important to stress a few of things at this point
1. The money is ours and we dont have to bid for it - in fact it is banked and accruing interest
2. The residents and no-one else get to say what projects/changes/improvements get made and funded
3. The councils have nothing to do with how the money is spent
So come along to the public meetings and find out how you can get involved in changing your community.

Great step in the right direction. This has to be applauded something positive for Dover at last.
Good Luck

Thanks Gary & Jan
I am keen to be neutral on this and encourage all 7000 people who live in the designated area to have their say on
a) what they like about their area now
b) what they dont like
c) what doesnt work
d) what they would like to do about it
the first 3 create the baseline to work from and the last one gives the bucket list of projects that will be prioritised for delivery over 10 years, of course as things get delivered and outside agencies do their stuff the wish list will change and need to be reviewed

I can think of one thing I would like and that is............Christmas lights all the way up the town to Buckland Bridge if possible.

Thanks very much for putting up the ordnance survey map Scotchie, as it helps a great deal at a glance, I do hope that the monies are put to good use and not squandered on useless projects and paid advisers.

I think shiela from priory was going to bid, and with the rail station getting people in and out of the town she tells me priory isn't in the area.
shame, but i wish those that are all the best

I am sure Ross will correct me if I am wrong but surely anyone who lives or works in Dover can make suggestions to any group so long as that group is in the designated town area.

Well yes, but what about the people of the Priory, Clarendon, Westbury, Elms Vale & Maxton areas still getting engaged as I am sure they use parts of the area that is included either to work or play in.
Also there are loads of other funding avenues that the people working with us to facilitate things can help people access

No Keith, I did not misunderstand your post

, I just thought I should try to put a positive slant for those who do not think they can get involved and hope they put ideas forward.

Parts of the Priory part of the ward are in the area and I will be wanting to get involved, but as I am Chairman of the Priory Forum and a Councillor, I don't want to miss this golden opportunity for our area.
I didn't realise there was such urgency.

Roger, there is no urgency - the money belongs to the people of the specified area to use how they collectively see fit over a 10 year period.
As far as I know everyone can get involved who lives, works or uses the area for leisure activities, there are restrictions on councillors and others, but as residents they can get involved and have the same voice as everyone else (I think it is likely we will want to maintain a register of interests). Also the money cannot be spent on anything that is covered by statutory obligation on another party.
