Just heard about this on Radio Kent.
Is this something new? What's it for?

That's it. There's a downloadable spreadsheet with "Dover Town" on it.

Does anybody know how it is due to be spent. I hope the vast majority is not going to the DITZ area as there are other areas also in need of tarting up

, Connaught Park straight away springs to mind.

From the BBC link above:
"Residents must come together to do the best they can with their £1m, which can be used on anything from training and employment schemes, to tackling anti-social behaviour, creating new community facilities or providing more activities for young people."
Sounds like the community will have a lot of input, be nice if bids could be put in by groups in the area to help kick-start projects like the Community Garden and Connaught Park, and perhaps to continue good work of WCCP in the Dour. Lots of things could happen with a small bit of funding to help them along
Let's all see this as something positive rather than knocking it in the way a lot of other threads go !
Been nice knowing you :)

"It is understood the Dover money will be spent on the town centre area from St James' Street to Buckland Bridge."
My, but the community decides quickly.

I don't doubt that Howard, I was hoping to hear that there is much scope within that area for the improvements wished for to take place.

Good news for Dover.
The money will be spent over the next several years. The area within which it is to be spent has been defined by the lottery chaps, but exactly what it is to be spent on within that 'area of benefit' is down to the community who will decide via a community trust for which individuals within the community will be selected and trained to help the town get the maximum possible benefit out of the funds provided. Hopefully we'll get more details soon.

Indeed we are
As Paul says we many groups need comparatively small sums to make a big difference

i don't see there being more than 5 community groups in the area defined which means 200 grand each, a very handy sum if used carefully in each locality and i believe that free expert help is on hand to guide.
i hope the hall 2 doors from me can get involved, the committee there have worked wonders in raising money over the last few years and the premises are in great demand from clubs and institutions not withstanding the fun bingo nights that are a roaring success.
the problem they have currently is the roof, seems to have been worked on continuously for a few weeks, as one problem is solved another one arises, the water damaging the fabric of the building and the contents.
any money that came their way would not be a hand out but a hand up.

There are a huge number of groups and societies and clubs in Dover that could do with funds. It is over 10 years and a single body certainly won't be getting £200k each !!!
London Road Forum, or the commuity garden, or White Cliffs Countryside Partnership, or Dover Society, or the Castle Street group, or probably endless scouts and kids clubs, etc, etc. I am sure all would be greatful to have the opportunity to have just a hundred quid towards their work

no actually, the money is earmarked for a small geographical area and would therefore exclude groups like wccp and whps amongst many.
most of dovers clubs and societies are outside the money zone, in fact i am now wondering whether c.a.w.c.a or priory forum are in it.
aycliffe, st radigunds, most of buckland and many more are excluded.

Which is why I didn't mention WHPS, but WCCP certainly do work on the river which is definately within the area
I think you will be surprised at the number of community groups that there are in the area...
But it is all just speculation, it is a 10 year plan and nothing is going to happen overnight so we'll just have to wait and see once details are available !
