that one about the ice cream seller cracked me up.
the second one speaks of "licenced refreshment houses" seperately from pubs.
any clarification would be good.

Kath, please, oh please. How did things end for the ice cream vendor?
Was he given 99 of the best?

Tom -
The Magistrates said how long were the men allowed to stop when selling ice creams.
The Superintendent said they were NOT allowed to stop in the roadway.
Grilli was given a 5s fine (which I suppose was a lot in 1900)

There is something here on the origins of ice-cream in London, but sadly no news as yet as to what was used to colour it red...

I see there was an 'unfortunate incident' near the Plough & Harrow (!), but notwithstanding the delay, everyone enjoyed themselves in a 'rational' way !!! Use your own imagination.

Help - I'm desperately trying to remember the name of Grilli's ice cream parlour at the top of Peter Street. I can still picture him now behind the long counter. There were several Grilli's of course and the son-in-law Mr Franci. He had the parlour in what in now Santander opposite McD's.

I didn't keep the dates the other day, but I think it was from 1909 that I was looking at.
One event recorded a shop in Snargate Street fined for selling ice-creams 'out of hours'...
Another was someone fined several shilling for swimming in the sea outside the designated hours !!
Been nice knowing you :)
