Scaffolding was being erected here today. Anyone know why? Demolition? Redecoration following S215 notice? Mad if they are doing it up it is quite rotten!!!!

Looking at the nice new streetview
http://goo.gl/maps/DwLm5 there's a number 19 on the wall.
It doesn't look too bad, in another town it would have been renovated. Shame about it being on the A20. Is it part of DTIZ?

The Godden family do not own this building. They never did.
I agree Howard, it will be interesting to see what unfolds

Property owner working with enforcement officer over section 215 compliance. Positive approach. More to follow.

Thanks Paul, what a shame it took the enforcement officer's intervention before the owner decided to do anything.

Very nearly opposite Centurion House is being treated to some scaffolding.

Centurion getting ready for demolition converting to car parking prior to St James development. Car park will wrap around rear of Bench St properties to take in old Britannia & Ray Warner studio sites in Townwall St. That means some of the hoardings will be removed.

I think that building should stay one of the best looking one in the town. And could still be put back into use even with a new build going on around it.

The letter (dated 1st July) which isn't a section 215 letter is to do with Crypt site and not the old amusement arcade though.
All it seems to say is clear vegetation and put up hoardings including some sort of building wrap with an old picture of the Crypt on it, not really much of a solution for the future.

I think I've got this right - it was explained at the scrutiny meeting about DTIZ held in the Discovery centre earlier in the summer that the problem with The Crypt site is that it still holds remains of 'the crypt' which are listed, so English Heritage won't allow any development that doesn't preserve them, which is difficult.

Paul W, are any of the other Bench St buildings slated for demolition?

Not that I know of at present Peter.
Both Crypt site & other building are to be dealt with by the owners.

Ray you are correct. Any future scheme must include how developments treat & include the Crypt site.
