27 August 2009Exotic Dancing brings a touch of Continental Europe to Market Sq!
For one brief moment there I thought I was witnessing a touch of the flemencos in Market Sq. It was hot and exciting it really was! While its true I dont know my flamencos from my fandangos, it nevertheless all looked exotic to yours truly PaulB. As it turned out, it was an Indian dance troupe entertaining the crowd and not a flemenco at all. This was part of Dover's weekend long Dance Festival in the Square. One nearly had a rush of blood for a fleeting second and thought oneself to be in Barcelona or perhaps even Bombay..you know, where the ducks come from!? Seriously though, the event went on for a great part of the weekend and although I was there just briefly at the beginning of the enterprise, it all seemed to be going with a surefootedness that can only be admired...from afar! Launch of the
New Gateway in Central Dover.
"Thats a mighty Big One you have there Bernie !" said one wag as the good natured Chairman of Dover District Council Bernard Butcher stepped forward with an enormous pair of silver scissors to snip the ribbon that opened the new Gateway Centre in Castle St. The time was 11.45 and the date August 29, 2009. The doors were declared open on a fantastic new building, slick clean enticing and attractive and a very welcome addition to Dover. There are already seven of these centres spread right across Kent, Dover is included in that
seven.
Obviously with such a countywide spread, with more Gateway Centres to come too across Kent, the KCC are clearly behind this excellent advancement in communication, but have worked in close partnership with DDC on this new Gateway Centre here in central Dover. The Centre offers residents and visitors immediate physical and frontline access to a whole range of both DDC and KCC services such as Health, Employment, Housing, Well Being, etc, so will be welcomed widely for its initiative on instant access for everyone.
Comments Always Welcome Below.

The Pictures: Top shot shows Councillor Bernard Butcher, Chairman of Dover District Council, being aided and abetted in the ribbon cutting by Bill Hayton, the Vice Chariman of Kent County Council.
The pictures immediately above show some of those gathered at the Gateway Centre to hear the speeches by both Bernard Butcher and Bill Hayton. You will recognise some of the faces there but in particular our KCC representatives for Dover Town, Nigel Collor and Roger Frayne.
The picture left shows the clean lines and indeed size of the offices and as you can see there are lots of cordoned off gaily illustrated sections for maximum privacy. There is an equidistant amount of space behind the camera too so the Centre is quite large, well manned, and ready for every enquiry.
Opening Hours?
The Castle St Centre is open 9 to 5 monday to friday,
and 9 to 1pm on saturday.
Opening Jessie's Bar at Chapter Eight

Many of you will have seen the stories in the local newspapers about this new idea from Chapter Eight owner Tony Tse. He has launched a new bar in his Chapter Eight restaurant and called it Jessie's Bar after a much loved customer of his who died tragically young at the age of 26, her name was Jessica Samways. She was a favourite customer of Tony's and a daughter of his good friend Brian Samways. The bar is a very jazzily comfortable and brilliantly lit room on the first floor, aimed at those special events.. weddings, birthdays, conferences and even meetings. This new Private Function Suite can accomodate all of these in excellent surroundings and can take up to 60 people where fine Chinese food can be enjoyed and with some very nice drinks too. Well done to owner Tony Tse who has invested even further in Dover and at a time of deep recession. Lets hope its a big success. An excellent venue for a Christmas party.
The picture above shows Tony Tse, owner of Chapter Eight, the popular chinese restaurant, slicing a delicious looking suckling pig and being helped to do it by our Town Mayor, Cllr Sue Jones in the centre, and Jessica's step mum Liz Holt on the right who was an excellent co-host. It was a very pleasant occasion celebrating the opening of a very nice idea. Let us hope it will be a big success. It gives Dover a new dimension in its entertainment facility.

On the left we see Deputy Mayor Cllr Jan Tranter, who was at the event in a private capacity, helping Tony pour the drinks from behind the bar. And very nice wine it was too. The picture on the right shows action girls Colette Boland from Doverforum enjoying some fun and chat with Your Dover's prolific roving reporter Marijke Cox.
So remember this new venue next time you are planning a party, a conference, a meeting, or indeed a function of any kind. Call them on 01304 219888 or email: tserestaurant@hotmail.com and support our Dover venues.
