Among the Sharks

at

Nausicaa

Yes indeed.... and what fab creatures they are. We took advantage, in this high season, of the new LD Lines service to the much underated Boulogne, and there were some quite wonderful surprises. Initially at first glance Boulogne strikes you as a rather grey concreted township but scratch a bit deeper and there are many pleasantries, not least...Nausicaa.

Have any of our readers been to Nausicaa or indeed to Boulogne itself...are there any lessons to be learnt from their 'al fresco' lifestyle here in Dover? Picture above shows daughter BrionyB really enjoying the sharks. More pictures to follow later.
All pictures by Briony Boland save the top one.

Ah...Leaving Dover behind. Its early morning and a warm sun washes its way across the town settling on the Saxon Church at the top of the skyline. The colours are magnificent and we try to capture that slightly sad moment you feel...leaving Dover behind early morning. That sad moment however is always buoyed up with anticipation of the good times to come. For a short while you can put your cares, bills, recessions, dwindling bank account, and all problems of that ilk behind you, while you bash what monies you have left on high continental living! Yesireee!! Another Croc Monseur sil vous plait and top up the Muscadet!

Mean and magnificent! Yes this guy is 100% cold steel, the sharp end of nature. I wouldnt want to encounter him if he hadnt had lunch. Just look at those teeth..sharper than your ex-wife's!! This great monster, of eight or ten foot long dimension, glides gently by, the other side of very strong and very thick glass of the unbreakable kind....there are more open areas too...but dont stick your hand in!

The Seals are hugely lovable creatures and attract a large standing room only crowd for their performance. They will do anything for a mackerel, anything at all. The female controller runs a good show and the seals love her for it, or so it seems. And, the crowd love the seals. Make sure you catch the time of their display, its well worth it. The cute little Penquins are adorable and of course everybody's favourite. They dont do much of anything but just waddle about in ultra cute mode. Below you can see other forms of underwater life. The whole place is teeming with variety. Daughter BB wore yours truly out running from pillar to post to see this or that. There is so much to see. But it was a great day out!

I will feature Boulogne the town in a couple of days. PaulB
