Dover Ladies Luncheon Club's Annual Christmas Event... with Cameo Opera.

Nobody dozes at this Lunch. The marvellous singers of Cameo Opera blast out a seasonal song in fine and powerful style.

Singing at the Ladies Luncheon held last sunday at the Town Hall (Dec 6) they charmed all the guests with a range of songs from The Merry Widow to Lakme to the oh so passionate Carmen, and it went down a treat. As did the fine lunch, put together by those famous Dover Ladies Who Lunch...yes none other than the Dover Ladies Luncheon Club, led by arch supremo Adeline Reidy, who marvellously organises all these gatherings. Adeline groups and rallies all the Ladies together for good times aplenty. The event was held with a French Flavour, as it celebrated the Centenary of Louis Bleriot's first flight across the Channel.

Below we have a selection of pictures from some of the people attending. Just a handful as the event was, as ever, very well attended indeed. And as you can see some of the Ladies even managed to bring their husbands!

On the left we see the Leader of Dover District Council and a very familiar face to us all Paul Watkins. Paul of course is a Forumite and often brings us very valuable contributions, which adds greatly to the debates and the discussions. But whats this? Is it a coincidence that Paul was sitting at a table with No.10 placed on there for all to see..is this an omen ? Perhaps something calls him still to the corridors of power. He is seen here with his lovely wife Christine, who may not be quite as familar a face, so very nice to see her. On the right we have another familiar face and top Forumite, another mover and shaker, Town Business Support Manager Roger Walkden. Roger is seen here enjoying his pint. On the right of shot with Roger is David Mullan who is a member of the local Health Matters Reference Group for the PCT.

Although 'yours truly' was not at the event one can tell from the pictures here, and indeed the ones we couldn't fit in, that there was a whole brace of glamorous women enjoying this grand occasion. And none more so than the two on display here. In centre spot is the lovely Adeline Reidy, organiser supreme, and on the right Patricia Knight, a relation to famed singer...Joss Stone. The chap with the dashing blue shirt is Ray Hibbs.

On the left we have 'Lady' Linda Hannent...wife to top Forumite and Councillor David Hannent. Getting into the Christmas spirits with Cameo Opera singer Matthew Craven! What a good show they did by all accounts... On the right we see more glamorous women...Valerie Blankhart a regular at the Ladies events, seen here with her friend Angela.

Below, the final shot showing the group at LindaH and ColetteB's table...and a very jolly time was had by all. Left to right..David Mullan, as seen above, Charlotte Coles, Sue Mullan, Colette Boland, Phil Coles, and Linda Hannent. That's all Folks! PB

Christmas Fayre at Belgrave Road Community Centre.

There were Christmas Fayre's on all over the district on saturday last, the timing of all of them clashed which was a pity, and as they were all raising funds for good causes we hope they all did very well. There just isnt enough pre Christmas saturdays to go round I guess. The pictures here are from the Fayre at the Community Centre in Belgrave Road, which attracted a very good turnout. It all went "swimmingly" said one insider, which is good to hear. The top picture is of a little girl called Oceanne and you see her here waiting patiently, all agog, knowing it's her turn next to see Santa. Look at the Christmas innocence of that little face. A lovely picture.

Pictures below show some of the people taking part. On the left below we have well known Community Volunteers Diane and Michael Munn. What would community life be like without these excellent volunteers. On the right below we have forumite and Councillor Sheila Amos, who is, as you can see, a terrifically hands on Councillor. Is that a halo I see about her head? Sheila loudly rang a bell outside the Fayre spreading the clanging word over a wide area... proclaiming the Fayre to be open in true traditional Town Cryer style. It brought in the customers. Many thanks to Howard for the pictures. PB
