The Front Page. - Copy 217 ( Hospital Rally )

10 December 2011

Following on from our earlier coverage...Here we are with a selection of pictures taken saturday morning at the Hospital Rally in central Dover. Approximately 200 people took part and all were very passionate about Dover getting it's own hospital. The newspapers were there and so were both Meridien TV and the BBC. The marchers assembled in Market Square in bright bold sunshine, and although it was extremely cold spirits were high....The passionate charge was led from the front by long time hospital campaigner Reg Hansell and local MP Charlie Elphicke, both are strongly associated with the efforts to get a hospital here in Dover.

The marchers chanted in spirited fashion and in traditional style as they made their way through the town.

Christmas shoppers gaped in admiration.
The call went up......
What to we want : A Hospital!
When do we want it : Now!

The top two pictures show the rally making its way up from Market Sq and heading towards its final assembly point at the Town Hall where they were met by the Mayor of Dover Cllr Ronnie Philpott.

The third picture from top shows Reg Hansell, organiser extraordinaire, with fellow campaigner Mrs Chris Baker. Mrs Baker is a dynamic sprightly 80 year old and she has been campaigning for a hospital for Dover.."forever"..she was a nurse for 35 years and wants to see people motivated to engage in the fight.

Picture left shows some of the Doverforum contingent ,former Mayor Cllr Jan Tranter left, Charlie Elphicke MP centre, and Colette Boland on the righthandside....all with banners at the ready.

Picture left was snatched by Colette Boland and features Mayor Ronnie Philpott who was also waving her banner in fine style as she greeted the marchers on the steps of Maison Dieu House where the speeches were made.

Charlie Elphicke said.. speaking of the PCT " I wont believe a word they say until I see bricks being laid..Ashford and Margate are just too far...remember you are not just a number you are a person!" said Charlie, and he thanked Reg Hansell for all his efforts..

"We have done enough talking" said Reg Hansell. "We want action now".

Indeed.
