Can we add Mel-P to the list of mystery members? Things seem to be quiet with her, maybe on another holiday?
I hope she is having a good time whatever the reason for her absence.

As I mentioned on another thread, I contacted Wetherspoons property maintenance team the other day about their Castle Street property and today I talked with their builders at the site and they were advising me of just how bad a state the building is, inside as well as out and what they are doing with the blue tarpaulin (protecting people from falling masonry).
This afternoon I had a phone call from one of their property companies and Wetherspoons want to move forward with all haste and are actively working with the Planning Officers at DDC and a new planning application will come before the committee quite soon.
He was quite happy for me to share this good news with everyone.

they put in a fresh planning application every time they get harrassed over the falling masonry.
i doubt that any new one will be as likely to go forward as the others.

don't share your optimism paul, don't see there being enough business to keep two of their outlets going.
there was work going on there earlier, either that or doctor who made a surprise visit.

After my telephone conversation with the chap from K.D. Paine, he sent me an email confirming their intention to refurbish this building and that they want to move it forward as quickly as possible.
I am awaiting an email reply from DDC to confirm the above.

Tsk-tsk, Howard. Can you not tell the difference between the Tardis and the Turdis?

27, I don't often burst out laughing but that did it. Especially as that particular Michael Portaloo is at a location we sometimes refer to as Poo Corner!

They might have been riding your bike telling you about refurbishment Roger. Does the email they sent you actually state what they will do and within what timescale?
I'm led to believe there's nothing behind the façade. The lead was all stolen as soon as the scaffolding was erected and it's in an abysmal state inside
I'd be surprised if the scaffolding was now removed what's left of the structure didn't collapse.

You old cynic Tony.
The building is a shell, the inside is indeed in an abysmal state, due to a leaky roof and vandalism. There is nothing inside that can be saved and many of the rivets on the steel girders have rusted through, although most of the brickwork is sound.
The front (Castle STreet) facade will be kept, but probably not much else.
Wetherspoons people and DDC officers, are working together to put forward a plan and this will be brought to fruition fairly soon.

Roger - do you know any more about what is happening to the building now the unsightly thing has been covered in plastic, presumably to stop the render falling off onto people ??
Been nice knowing you :)
