Think I've mentioned before, there's Nigerian Guiness on sale in the exotic food section at Tesco's, apparently most Nigerians don't believe it can be brewed anywhere else -
"Nigerian Guinness is said to be twice as strong as Irish Guinness. In the 1800s, the Irish brewed the Guinness twice as strong, due to a fear of evaporation on the long voyage to Nigeria. However, the alcohol did not evaporate, and to this day Nigerians brew their Guinness twice as strong."

Stella Artois is another beer that is good in Belgium but the stuff from the Luton factory is inferior.

One of my relatives had a trip around Shepherd Neame recently (not the public tour), it's amazing what is brewed there.

We once visited Cobh and asked our guide where was the best pub for Guinness. She looked aghast and said the local brew was Murphy's and we should not even be thinking of the G word. We were not particularly fond of Murphy's but we found a cosy, friendly local bar and downed several pints whilst chatting to the locals. It was absolutely delicious and tasted far better than it does over here.

People from Cork do have a thing about Murphys over Guinness. I personally find Murphys a little sweeter and not as good.
It's made a big difference since Guinness (in Britain) is now produced in Dublin again. It is noticeably better, I love the stuff.
Saying that I had a nice pint of Imperial Stout in the Just Reproach the other week.

I must say I do like a pint of Guinness as you can tell from my pic.... You cannot beat it from the bar at the top of the Guinness Warehouse in Dublin though!! It really does taste very different there.

I'll second that Barry. I had a couple of pints of Guinness on that top-floor and they were the first since I was a teen-ager (has Guinness been going that long ??) and they were just gorgeous.
I do like Murpy's too - Peter's Murphy's is perfect.

While ambling through Deal the other day with ColetteB..what do we come across by complete accident but none other than Marks famous Micropub...The Just Reproach. naturally we nipped in and tried the cider and wine in fact...it was a mere fleetingish visit but not quite so fleeting in the end, we enjoyed ourselves and it has now led to an unscripted/unscheduled story and pictures for our frontpage. Completely unscheduled we didnt even have a notebook but gladly we had a camera. See the frontpage now.
Well done Mark. Was great to see you again.
Ps: Love that post 24...lol!
It looks lovely - and a refreshing change to most of those damned jukebox/games/telly pubs. Good on him!

Paul, it was great to see you and Colette the other day and I am glad that you enjoyed yourselves.
Watty, it's a body double. I hire them in when I know there is likely to be a camera about to make the place look busy!

Great Front Page PaulB, shame I wasn't with you when you sampled Marks fine ales, I think I can find a reason to pop down to the Just Reproach. Looking forward to seeing you in the near future Mark
