It would appear 1 or 2 egos have been ruffled at Whitfield, oh well, if I'm honest I'm revelling in my new found role of agent provocateur.
Lets remember why I started this thread, a visitor to the town was upset at the appearance of a place he once lived. DDC can throw their hands up in the air, but wouldn't it be better if they stopped all the negativity by actually doing something? Interestingly, the lead letter in the Express this week makes exactly my point.
I'll do a deal with DDC, get off your backsides and I'll shut up, until such time I have a public duty to hold you to account, those who are moaning are paid enough money, you should be able to take a bit of flak.

Yes Peter, but in those circumstances I am not risking the good will expressed towards a voluntary organisation that I am part of am I!! My opinions are far too dangerous to put on here sadly.
Anyway, personally, I am enjoying this thread.
Howard, I certainly do ahve a round head these days!

Oh man up Crowley for heaven's sake, the political bruisers and senior management at DDC aren't intimidated by a two bob local business man like me.
My bet is in no time at all they'll be calling Dover the Monaco of the South East, a wealthy principality where the rich and famous gather to spend money, see and be seen.

David, I believe it was a small child (according to the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale) who pointed out the Emperor's lack of clothing......so your lack of status should not be an issue.
And your name is appropriate given your relationship with the DDC Goliath. Get your sling and go down the beach for practice.

#93 Simon I hope there are no repercussions for the Town Team, it seems those at Whitfield are a bit over sensitive or is it possible they feeling a bit guilty that the regeneration is moving so very very slowly.
I suppose that in future anyone who is a volunteer with an organisation will have to start their post with the phrase 'speaking personally' just so there is no confusion.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

i doubt there will be repercussions, ddc and the town team are too professional for that, both need each other anyway.

it's not all doom and gloom, received a list of properties where the owner has been written to requesting that the exterior of their property be improved.
will be going around taking photos of the ones that have complied, here is the first one at the junction of castle street, eastbrook place and maison dieu road.

Howard, this is a big issue for me, the fact DDC is threatening property owners when it can't/won't look after its own real estate. Come along to my place and take some photos of the DDC bombsite behind me.

Quite a lot in this thread,
Its interesting a two bob business person has come under the spotllight, and of course theres nothing wrong with his views being expressed within the forum.
Of course, just as people9for the wrong reasons)alighn any view i make, whether they are labour party policy or not, my personal views(which always are my personal view)
just the same as david is in a town team and has alighned itself to that body to which the 2 bob businessman is part of.
And it's right for other members of the town team to make it clear that the views expressed are personal views are not wanting any good works between the council/town team to be affected by it.
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

Howard, the thing that concerns me about this is that the Council must have given you a list of the properties, or a councillor leaked it.

Perhaps Howard has seen the Stasi operating in town, you know those snoopers and snitches that have nothing better to do than take photographs of other people's property.

I was one of those snoopers and snitches who took a photograph of another person's property. In this case, the egregious Dover Bargain Centre. My late mother-in-law lived opposite and this spectacle filled the view from her living room window for more years than I care to remember.
After a campaign led by the Dover Express, new owners transformed it into the Paint & Decor Centre and my mother-in-law was finally relieved of this blight which had cursed her for so long. I say more power to the snoopers and snitches who expose the people who are happy to inflict this sort of thing on everybody else.

Well done to you Ed. I was referring to councillors who should get their own houses in order.

no leak, all the properties i will show here are ones that have been smartened up - i know of no list that shows non-compliers.
116 brought back memories ed, siberian hamsters used to frolic around on the premises.

I used to work in what is now the Paint and Decor Centre. It was George Thomas, the ironmongers when I was there.
Must've had to a lot of work to do to the upstairs to make them habitable as they were quite bowed and uneven as I recall. Behind us at the were Rawlsons who made fibre glass car bodies.

The façade of George Thomas the ironmongers is now preserved at the Dover Transport Museum of course.
