Headteacher Judith Carlisle's statement on the Dover Grammar School for Girls A level results 16/08/07

"
Results for Sixth Form students at Dover Grammar School for Girls are once again outstanding. A level results show the highest UCAS points score per student for the last three years, with a 99% A level overall pass rate. 64% of the students have achieved the equivalent to an impressive 5 or more A level passes. 52% of all A level results are A or B grades. All 85 Upper Sixth students achieved 3 or more A levels

There were some superb results for individual students. Laurence Biot, has achieved a stunning 6 A grades at A level, in Biology, Chemistry, French, General Studies, History and Mathematics. She is going on to read Veterinary Science at Downing College, Cambridge. Antara Banerjee, Amy Chawner, Nicola Pollard and Meryl Trussler were all awarded an exceptional 5 A grades at A level. Nicola and Antara also have places at Cambridge, where Nicola is to read English and Drama, and Antara, Natural Sciences. Amy will study History at Warwick University and Meryl is to follow her interest in Media and Modern Literature at Goldsmiths’College, London. Meryl received a special letter of congratulations form the examinations board, AQA, as she scored one of the top five marks for English Literature nationally, out of 8573 candidates.

The Lower Sixth look set for similar success this time next year, with the best individual points scores ever at this stage. Briony Boland, Lorna Brankley, Helen Everett and Karina Pope each achieved a “clean sweep”, with 4 A grades at AS level.

And, as the school becomes a Specialist Humanities College on 1st September, the A level History results are already a real sign of success. 10 students in the Lower Sixth took the A level a year early and achieved 8 grade A and 2 grade B awards. In the Upper Sixth, 50% of the students gained A grades.

Headteacher, Judith Carlisle, expressed her delight with the students’ achievements. “This is the result of teamwork throughout the school. Teachers and support staff always go that extra mile for the students here, and the girls’ enthusiasm, commitment and sheer hard work have led to their well-deserved success. These young women have earned their places in universities and careers of their choice and I wish them every happiness in the future.”
