These were the celebrations which cost the best part of half a million pounds for the wonderful opportunity to see some bloody 'rap' group on the sea-front where we weren't allowed to drink other than Budweiser (the sponsored beer) and laugh at Nigel Collor in a track suit which was so stretched he looked like a large toddler in a baby-gro. Oh. There were some fireworks (yawn). That was it.

DDC claimed that this was going to lead to an Olympic legacy (sic) with future hotel bookings soaring once people had seen Dover (then admitted later they didn't know what the base figures were so could not even measure them) and an increase in health in the district as everyone took up sport (the yoof have got even fatter and less likely to exercise).

As with most things 'Dover' it was a total waste of time though excellent at spending 'other peoples money', and could only possibly be celebrated by those who have never been to a proper public 'event' in their life.

It was only the 'biggest attended event' in Dover because it was marginally less crap than most of the attractions we offer.

How long have you been a District Councillor in the ruling party Bob and how much responsibility do you accept for the above?
