That could owe more to the fact that the election of MEPs is by proportional representation, rather than 'first past the post'. A Euro vote is for a party, not the candidate and by virtue of being 'number 2' in the UKIP pecking order, Ms Atkinson was always going to be elected, regardless of public opinion on her suitability.
Thank christ we, as a nation, have put the whole proportional representation thing to bed - one good thing to come out of the Coalition Government. It will be interesting to see how UKIP fare next year when individuals are being voted for, rather than the utopian ideal of UKIP that many been caught up in of late...
