Boarded the 63 bus earlier to go into town and sat in front of me in the seats reserved for the elderly and disabled was a chap holding up a clear plastic wallet with papers inside. Standing outat the top were the words "Nomination Paper", not having my reading glasses with me I had to lean forward and picked out 2 key phrases - "Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory" together with "Graham Richard Wanstall". Upon alighting from said bus I turned around to have a look but still wasn't sure it was him as all the photos of Graham I have seen he was wearing night attire.

Graham has always stood as an independent candidate.

Independant for what.
Tell me one thing, or anything, he has done, whilst being a Town Councillor?

If Graham has actually done nothing he seems the ideal candidate.
It's those who actually try to do something who tend to leave a trail of expensive failure behind them!

I'm quite clear that I support active cllrs whatever the party if they live in the ward so many cllrs in priory go missing once elected from indy to tory to labour there are if course a few that are active moving on to the last post I may not support his standing but cut wanstall has campaigned to keep the red telephone boxes which is part of our heritage also active on the elms vale tram shelter wanstall also is one of a few vocal cllrs like him or loathe him he has the right to stand people will decide if he should be elected

Other than what has already been stated before he became a Town Councillor Graham campaigned for a long while to get a flag post erected in Connaught Park so the union flag could be flown on special days such as a coronation, royal wedding, Brian's official birthday etc. As a Town Councillor he tried to make playing the national anthem mandatory at the mayor making, naturally he got told whereto go with that one.

Breaking news, Nathaniel Richards the proprietor of Nifties in the Charlton Centre will be the Labour candidate in the Buckland ward By-election subject to getting 10 signatures on his nomination form by Monday.

Cllr Wanstall organises a best dressed Christmas window in his ward each year.He is very polite and sincere.i know a lot of people are full of praise for him.He does work for the people in his.ward What is wrong with the National Anthem at Mayor Making better than the chamber music with Councillors walking down the aisle as if they were at a wedding??
That's my invite out of the window.Still I have attended many.

Wanstall is an embarrassment to this town. I met him recently. I could not believe the arrogance of this nutcase. He is the most insincere pretence of a Cllr I have met yet. He doesn't think females are any good at much at all. He has done absolutely nothing for his ward nor has he participated in any scheme to improve Dover. He calls himself a writer, going by his letters he'll never win any awards. No job, ever and as mentioned by Howard, his dressing gown has appeared in the press . Not my idea of a representative of anything or anyone. But then I have been surrounded all my adult life with men having a sense of duty, respect, doing what is required and getting stuck in. For what it's worth, the National Anthem should not ,under any circumstances, come under criticism by any British patriot. Thank heavens I can escape to Sandhurst at regular intervals . I am proud of our Queen, flag and National Anthem.

You seem to have lost your perspective Anna, and our national anthem is a joke and I am a patriot and a veteran of her Majesties armed forces. The armed forces that pride themselves on the respect they show towards their colleagues and enemies sadly you do a huge diservice to that with your biased and defamatory comments.

How very sad. I shall pass on your comments to the AccSM tonight in the officers mess at RMA Sandhurst where we shall be honouring the 100th anniversary of women in the Auxiliaries Corps passing through and being sent to France 3 days later. I shall take several paces back before he delivers his reply. Needless to say my late husband, a gentleman and an officer, would certainly not have agreed with your comments and neither do I. Our forces do respect all you say but, Queen, flag and the 1 thing that embodies it all, the National Anthem, first. Needless to say, we play the National Anthem frequently at Sandhurst and I proudly join in. Thank you Sue, I wholeheartedly agree with you on that point you made.

Do you skip the racist disrespectful last verse Anna?
I am fairly sure a senior warrant officer does not believe the embodiment of our armed forces is a relatively recent non-descript rascist anthem; pride, respect, gallantry, bravery, perseverance, diligence, all possible after all he earnt his rank by displaying those qualities unlike the officers he now watches over.

Nothing racist about it. Our dearest friends were and remain Gurkha's. Please do not use cheap racist remarks to argue any topic. You do not know my colour obviously. End of discussion. You brought the topic up, you steered it to racism. Goodbye.

post 11 Howard .
his apparent support of EU IN and refugees welcome may hamper him in a town like Dover
labour never learn do they?
but then again he will possibly draw the immigrant vote

We seem to have gone off topic rather dramatically, the subject of our National Anthem probably deserves a thread of its own. I always feel rather envious when the Welsh, Scots, French and Germans sing their ones at sporting events whilst we sing about someone "reigning over us" and no mention of our country is made. Reminds me of a banana republic where the supreme leader of the military junta is revered.
