Today's leader in the Observer starts:-

'Europe, including Britain, is in the eye of a humanitarian and refugee storm the size and scale of which national governments and the EU are only beginning to comprehend.'

    and continues:-

'The idea that this issue is being dealt with, or somehow resolved, is misleading. The mass migration of people in the age of mass communication is not a passing phenomenon.'

Frankly Brexit/Schmexit is a mere side show compared to this though most don't realise it yet!

The quicker we stop beating ourselves up and somehow believing that this has anything to do with our 'interference' in the Middle East the better. In the south of France last week (where groups of French schoolchildren actually look like groups of French schoolchildren rather than a United Nations kindergarten) I was reading 'Liberation'. This article http://www.liberation.fr/planete/2016/05/05/refugies-si-nous-faisons-machine-arriere-c-est-la-mort_1450773 dealing with refugees shows that most of the influx from Libya, heading to Italy, who have gone off the headlines are in essence economic refugees from West Africa.

Sooner of later, though possibly too late, we are going to have to make up our mind if we are going to let everyone in or keep everyone out. As long as half the planet knows we are enjoying a living standard beyond their imagination they will come as long as they know we have not got the resolve to keep them out.

Remember. If you are on the maximum amount one is able to claim on benefits £23,000 you are among the top 1% of earners on the planet. Just saying.
