Unfortunately the headline talks about the costs but the article doesn't. It is the most commonly performed operation in the country, i had both my eyes done this summer and it would have cost me £6000. 00 if i had paid private providers. Luckily my outcome was better than the unfortunates in Taunton. I have no doubt that the company that did mine and the one in the article charged a fraction of the full price knowing that eventually the N.H.S would feel it best not employ the surgeons and support staff that carry out the procedure.
The result would be a hike in charges which would mean that the N.H.S would have to ration these operations, the same would apply to procedures such as Endoscopy and hip replacements.
