as the logical extension to m.p's setting their own wages we would have to extend the privilege to all other public sector employees.

Howard - they are not just any other public sector employee. There is a basic rule that the House of Commons is supreme and answerable to the electorate only.
Because I set my own wage in my business it does not mean my employee should.l

The problem is that once MPs are sitting very comfortably in the Commons with all its perks they are not answerable to anyone, apart from their chosen party, until the next election, except in extremely unusual circumstances.

A lot have been answerable to the law in the last few years Jan, probably not as many as should have been!

I suspect there's one tory MP who might not be earning any money from her present job as Old Nig has announced that he's standing for the south Thanet seat at the next general election.
Funny thing about green tories - shouldn't they just cross the floor and announce themselves as liberals?

Are you sure about that philip, nigel f recently said that he wouldn;t make a decision on where he would stand until after next years european elections?
If it is true i think he has made a wrong decision with folkestone and hythe much more vulnerable.

Don't know if it's a definite at all but earlier reports in the broadsheets earlier in October certainly pointed in that direction. Either way it should make the next election very interesting.
