The Mayor does not go out of his or her district .I worked with the Town Mayors and I know the procedures.

What's all this about the Mayor trying to get Dover to be 'twin' with Edinburgh as they both have an enormous colourful tattoo?

Sorry I should have used the word 'was' rather than 'is', maybe she is/was friends with the owner.
To be honest I do not care either way she is a nobody, just a useless two bit publicity grabbing politician.

As have been the majority of local politicians for as long as I've been living in Dover. No names, no pack drill but some of the career local politicians seem only to have the council chamber or their preferred hostelries as their main environment. As far the Mayors, I agree with Howard. The last one to display any real integrity was Chris Precious.

#74 But he still allowed the town clerk to run rings around him. We need a mayor with both the personality and the legal knowledge to be able to stand on her/his own two feet. I don’t see anyone on the horizon with those qualities. All those who have held the post in recent years have either been party puppets or well-meaning but useful idiots. Even if we had such a mayor, I see no point in the town council. Most of its expenditure is to sustain its own existence and it does very little for the town.

Our Mayor is purely ceremonial Peter, although Mr Rix clearly thought otherwise, so no legal knowledge or political acumen is required.

Maybe we could do with a local referendum on whether we want or even need our useless DTC, but it might be a waste of our time going by the last national one.

Jan
It doesn't take many locals to do away with it
Over the years we have had a number of good mayor's
Gordon Cowan even though he's labour was one of the better ones
I think the mayor previous to a Jones caused the position embarrassment
Which will take a lot to get over
Certainly I spent 2 years on DTC and I believe and campaigned for no political parties on DTC
Labour in the main just all vote the same way
Either through belief
Or no bottle
I do believe decision making should be as local as possible
But we do tend to miss opportunities
We have at least one council to many
