Im all agog waiting for the London Mayor situation...I see the rest of the country have rejected the Cameron idea of elected mayors. I would have thought that idea was a runner...although the voters have probably seen the grim reality of the London version...this time around it was a fairly rotten and ugly spectacle and the distaste just put everyone off.
I know the Tories were expecting to lose some seats, had written a certain percentage off and were ready with their spin...but the Labour victory has been bigger than expected, rocking Conservatism in their homeland. Warsi was trying hard to spin out of that one...but looked a tired Chairman. Needs removing.

Nothing in the least impressive about the graphics that I linked to at #20. From what is not spoken about it seems there is the news that neither Bro-Ken or Bodge-Job are likely to reach 50%, so the second preference votes will make all the difference.

all to play for with the tousled haired toerag(as he is affectionately known locally) likely to take the crown but his court will be made up of the evil reds as majority.
noticed that ukip vote is up 2% whilst the bnp is down by the same amount which lends substance to the oft mooted theory that the former is a respectable version of the latter.

PaulB - you prefer to believe Labour's spin I see.
Nothing usual from these results mid-term. My blog tomorrow will actually cover why they are actually good for the Conservatives regardless of the Conservative losses.

Bodge-Job is not at all that close. He may be 4% ahead at the moment, with no chance of reaching 50% and the counting of our votes in the North East of London is behind schedule after a power-cut last night delayed the start of the count. It could be imagined that my neighbours might lean more to Bro-Ken. Close to the finish line. The down-side to all this is the media have still to find something to say to fill in the time.

barry
you will put more spin on it than shane warne, that is what happens after every election.
interestingly cleggy didn't and just put his hands up and aplogised to all the yellow councillors that were voted out through no fault of their own.

Of-course there is noting usual in these mid-term results, Barry.
A government must have done extremely bad to get such results, and this Government seemed to be doing everything to lose support from the public.
They haven't implemented anything good which they promised, starting with localism.
The only exception being Eric Pickles.

localism was never taken that seriously as evidenced by the public showing a marked lack of interest in elected mayors.

But the local elections yesterday show that on average two thirds of the electorate entitled to vote refused to. So my point is, they realised that there was no cause to do so, as the promised reforms have not been implemented, namely a transfer of administration from central to local Government, where-by local Government means the councils.

# 33.Boris is now a bigger meal ticket for the Tories than Cameron. He is in a prime position to sit back and wait for Cameron
to self distruct or to be removed by the normal tory system.

yes, many conservative leaders down the line found that.
having built the party up moving it away friom the right,
the right of the party are now fighting back.
boris is looking good for the number 1 position
cameron looking realy weak
then the demise of the lib dems
not a good week for the cobbled together co-olition

i was rather amused to see flashman latching onto the london mayoral win as a success for his party.
boris scraped home against an opponent well past his sell by date, if he had stood as an independent he would have coasted home.

Not a single surprise in any of the results. It is a great comfort to all those who resist change to see the same old two party see-saw continue. Also very sad to see the usual reaction, "this mob are making things worse better go back to the mob that got us into it." Even worse is that the only opposition is the very sad narrow interest groups like UKIP or their predecessor, the BNP. It will be no surprise to anyone that I was glad to see Siobhan Benita gain, at least, 4th place ahead of the fringe groups.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
