This really does have a 'fin de siècle' feel about it - a bit like the dog days of John Major where every second day had a headline about 'Tory sleaze'.

Somebody from Natalie's office even 'phoned me up the other day to see if the 'Job Centre for Useless People' which I wrote about on another thread actually existed!

Fortunately there was Tony Blair in Major's day to provide 'continuity Conservatism', David Blunkett going so far as to roll out ID cards, only to have them knocked on the head by Cameron after pressure from Nick Clegg, who was apparently worried about civil liberties and big brother - before he became vice-president of global affairs and communications at Facebook!

You really couldn't make that last bit up!

Unfortunately Keith Starmer is no Tony Blair.

    (From City AM 2022

Sir Nick Clegg bags a £10m bonus after taking Meta top spot as the president of global affairs alongside Mark Zuckerberg.

According to Bloomberg, the former deputy prime minister raked in a stock package worth $12.3m (£9.4m), which comes on top of his annual salary at Facebook’s parent company.

Clegg’s salary is reportedly £2.7m, and this new bumper package has doubled the total value of shares he has received since joining the company in 2019).
