Howard ,correction PCT members are appointed not elected & not accountable to the public via the ballot box.
PCT's are run by the paid Executive.
Watty
It (the NHS, PCTs, SHAs etc) is an extremely complex and wobbly structure - it has been allowed to amass itself to the point of destruction and desperately needs to be unpicked and simplified - this is a golden opportunity.

they all topple when they try to bring something in that is unworkable in practice.
the poll tax is the headline grabber, but there have been others.

# 46...........how true...Cameron started his primiership surrounding himself with images of NHS
saying``I`m a different type of tory,I`ll look after it....I will not reorganise it ????......he has gone back on
that.....it`s disastrous for his political project...........it was the biggest symbol of the `nasty party`...that
they would privatise,cut,marketise the NHS.
It goes to heart of whether he can be trusted as a man and whether his project has integrity.
The position he is in is potentially lethal.
This issue can make this man a one term Prime Minister.

post 47;
I think mr C has risked everything on this issue, whilst some would say it's good to take risks, the general public should not be unestimated.
they will bring this govt down.

They always "bring this government down". It's called elections. We should celebrate our democracy.

bern;
you are fully aware that the politics of national govt, normally decides who is/is not in govt.
dave c on a crest of a wave when elected, is now seen as the weakest link
and like ann robinson says people are waiting to say GOODBYE

Anyone who thinks the NHS is in fine fettle and does not require a root and branch reorganisation with the aim of putting the patient first is living on another planet.

the same could apply to those who blindly believe that these reforms will do the trick.

Something has to be done to sort out what seems to be inferior management and much to much paperwork. We will never know if the new proposals are right or wrong if they are not implemented, I am glad I do not have to decide either way.

Let'snot lose sight of the need to reform nurse training and the recruitment of doctors too. Nurse training has become inappropriate and not fit for purpose, and medico recruitment is a farce when we cannot find hospital doctors who can speak English sufficiently. The NHS is gasping for proper, total, reform. And as for #47, looking after the NHS will necessarily involve an overhaul and re-organisation. Not to do so would be, indeed, abandoning it to a certain and painful death.

We have allowed it to become a sacred cow. But I doubt that most of those who argue so vehemently against the changes would be capable of articulating their reasons.

# 54....sad one liner.# 57..does that make you feel superior ?.........# 55...too much of a gamble with the
nations health.
Polls say 70 % of Britons do not trust the tories with our NHS..........seems education is in tact..........
Cameron is putting his political pride ..........first.
Reforms are required........... and can be achieved with in the NHS structure.
The many ammendments only go some way to saving a disaster.
Much hangs on what happens..............
I dont trust any political party with the NHS as a matter of course , Remember some of these
Foundation Hospitals Labour Party
PCTs Labour Party
Nice Labour Party
Division of Health and Social Care Conservative Party
First privitization of some NHS services Conservative Party
Continued privitisation of NHS services Labour Party , i fact I believe more services where put to tender under the last Labour regieme than under the Tory
So any arguement based along the lines the All Tories are bad and all Labour is good is Pot calling the Kettle black and dosnt stand scrutiny . In fact its probably worse than that and borders on the laughable .
All parties have done some good things and some bad things where the NHS is concerned
I couldn't agree more Sarah. But logic and sense disappear when people start talking about the NHS.
"55...too much of a gamble with the nations health." from Reg. Currently we are playing russian roulette with the nations health but that is ok? I don't think so.
