The house of Lords should go back to what they were unpaid and only a few went there to vote even, we get them all there now because of the £ 300 per sitting they get.

Just so I'm clear (got misled by the thread title), the system works (an unelected revisionist chamber that the Commons can overrule in the final analysis) and we just don't like the remuneration?

Wow. Such a lot of Marxists on this thread. Class revolt: The proletariat/working class overthrowing the bourgeois/middle class overthrowing the aristocracy/peers.
Not sure that I go in for the same full-blown Marxism as you guys, but I certainly do agree with removing those that been given power by virtue of a fortunate, privileged birth. In short, if they don't merit power why give it to them?

You left out those who get there because their chosen
political party leaders need to make up the numbers with those who loose their Parliamentary seat or simply retire from being an MP.

Yep - I'm unsure how a senate will be elected, but I am in favour of FULL democratic representative and that applies to the upper chamber. That said, I would allow a small amount of ex-officio 'senators' for the current law lords (though they must be crossbenchers). There are 5 law lords I believe. I won't allow religious representation other than through the ballot box.
