Howard the Mail beat the Independent to the story....................
Vodafone pays no UK corporation tax for second year running despite earning £5 billion in sales
In its annual report published today the company revealed it made an operating profit of £294 million
but paid no corporation tax
Vodafone paid no UK corporation tax for the second year in a row, it was revealed today in its annual report.
The company had sales of £5 billion in Britain in the year to March and made an operating profit of £294 million
, according to its results. But the mobile giant tried to head off a row by insisting critics should look at its
total contribution through other taxes.

Sorry Howard do not know yet how to do links.......rest of article.......................
Vodafone was able to slash its corporation tax bill to zero because it legally claimed allowances for
investment in infrastructure such as mobile spectrum and interest payments.
A spokesman told the Evening Standard: "If you want to look at the contribution a company makes
, it is misleading and unhelpful to only look at one line — corporation tax. Let's look at the whole contribution."
The FTSE-100 giant, which employs 7,850 staff in Britain, said it contributed huge sums to the UK
Exchequer — notably the £6 billion to the Treasury for 3G spectrum over a decade ago. It has just paid
more than £800 million for new 4G spectrum in Britain.
But the revelation that Vodafone paid no UK corporation tax for a second year is bound to enrage
some critics. Vodafone has been dogged by allegations of tax avoidance for years, with MPs criticising
a deal with HM Revenue & Customs to settle tax claims of £1.25 billion.
HMRC said that claims the tax deal was over as much as £6 billion were "an urban myth".
The company today published a 16-page defence of its tax activities, listing contributions made in
the previous tax year. Despite the zero corporation tax bill in the UK, Vodafone paid over £2.5 billion
in such tax in other countries.
Chief executive Vittorio Colao earned £11 million, down from £15.8 million a year earlier, as profits
slumped because of writedowns in southern Europe.

#2859 "Try running a business and perhaps you will discover just how out of touch you are."
After my wife became disabled, I had to resign from my job at Dover Cruise Terminal, at the same time both my parents had cancer and I was looking after them as well for nearly 2 years, so was unable to work.
After they passed away and when I had got my wife to a back to a level of better mobility, as I had never been out of work my entire life and was missing working for a living, I set up my own business.
True to form for a genuine disabled person, while I was distracted with setting up this business, my wife tried to behave like a normal person, doing the chores and ended up 6 weeks, bedridden unable to even go to the toilet.
6 weeks of no wages and the prospect of that happening again, forced me to abandon my business.
Instead, I now work very long hours ,mostly, but not all at home, I attend many meetings, locally & further afield, talking to some very influential people from all parties and all backgrounds and still find time to cook & clean, wash & iron , run a very successful free community festival and watch sky TV, all for £59.75 per week.
So I do not believe that it is me that is out of touch.

Top Tory in new Lobbygate row
MP coached client before committee grilling
Tim Yeo is chairman of the parliamentary energy and climate change committee
THE Tory MP in charge of scrutinising new energy laws has been caught boasting about how he can
use his leadership of a powerful Commons committee to push his private business interests.
Tim Yeo told undercover reporters — posing as representatives of a firm offering to hire him — that he was
close to "really all the key players in the UK in government" and could introduce them to "almost everyone
you needed to get hold of in this country".
He said he could not speak out for them publicly in the Commons because "people will say he's saying
this because of his commercial interest". But he assured them:
*********** "What I say to people in private is another matter altogether."**************

Innocent until proven guilty but do we have too many bad apples in Westminster?
Lobbying row MP Tim Yeo denies 'coaching' witness
Tim Yeo, the latest Tory MP engulfed in a lobbying row, has broken his silence to deny he "coached"
a business associate about how to give evidence to his parliamentary committee.
When asked if he would be interested in a £7,000-a-day consultancy contract with a solar company,
the MP said: "If you want to meet the right people, I can facilitate all those introductions and I use
the knowledge I get from what is quite an active network of connections."
The reporters queried if this included Government figures. Mr Yeo replied "Yes".
The House of Commons' code of conduct forbids MPs from acting as paid advocates, including by
lobbying ministers.

Who pulls the strings in Westminster?
Nobody. To 'pull' is not necessary, a short, sharp tug will suffice...for a Yeo-Yeo.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.
