How could Deal Town Council not lift the rates precept this year after incurring this year the extra unplanned costs associated with the departure of the Town Clerk, the legal costs associated with this departure, the cost of the training that all Councillors now have had to take to avoid another issue like that with the Town Clerk, the drop by £26K in the central Govt grant from last year? and the renovations of the Town Hall? To be able to fund all this additional expenditure they have either increased the rates unnecessarily over the last 2 years with their double digit rate increases to have given them a surplus of cash or they are raiding the limited cash reserve held by the Town Council to get a balanced budget (assuming they have not had a windfall from some unknown source). We the rate payers have a right to know? Why are they not issuing monthly balance sheets anymore with the finance papers for Council meetings as this would tell us? Is this another case of secrecy introduced by this Labour led Deal Town Council? Why can;f the rate payer not know what the financial situation is at the Deal Town Council ? I asked the question and did not get a reply other than 'Prudent management'. This is not good enough. Ratepayers need to see the balance sheets for each month this year? Let us get rid of secrecy at the Deal Town Council
