Donald Trump signed an executive order just days before Hurricane Harvey that scrapped many of the flood protections introduced by Barack Obama.
Harvey has caused huge damage in Texas as 30 inches of rain in less than 48 hours resulted in massive flooding.
The current US President, however, has abolished a number of flood standards in an attempt to get infrastructure projects approved more quickly. The Federal Flood Risk Management Standard is among those to have been rolled back.
In 2015, Mr Obama introduced measures that made it harder to build roads, bridges and other infrastructure in areas that were susceptible to flooding. Plans for such projects would legally have to take into account the impact of climate change and be built to withstand future changes.

Over the top from Trump as usual but it has to be said that terrorist groups use social media sites with great success knowing that if they get shut down they can come back immediately under a new name.

Earlier in the week I attended a talk by General Michael Hayden, former Director of CIA and NSA, that he was giving about relationships between our intelligence communities in the age of Trump. Whilst he didn't actually say that Trump was an idiot in so many words ................

Certainly feels safer now that Trump's UN speech has put us on the road to world peace and harmony.

Well there's certainly a Muttley crew in charge over there, but the hope that Dick Dastardly doesn't crash the car is a slim one...

Kim Jong-un's use of 'dotard' appears to have resulted in a spike in searches for the word in online dictionaries. It's not new to me, nor its associates 'dote' and 'dotage'. Generational perhaps. But there are also some suggestions that the original Korean phrase was somewhat loosely translated and that a more accurate rendering into English would be 'lunatic old man' or 'old beast lunatic'. So I suppose you could say that diplomacy prevailed in the end...

Being serious for a moment it seems difficult to comprehend how two chaps with excellent haircuts could reduce each other's country to ashes.

So some States have a (so-called) democratic system of appointing nobs, and others don't. Makes you wonder (or shudder) really.
