    in fairness to charlie, peter is right in that horse trading has to be done for the overall benefit of the district. the future of the port is vitally important long term so a bit of brown nosing is the right thing to do at this stage.

    after april the 9th it will be different as the port issue will be out of the way one way or the other and he will then be judged on his stance. my suspicion is that charlie doesn't see europe as a major issue in the same way that most members of the public do.
