I agree with Peter, Charlie has been a good constituency MP so he would take a lot of the Tory vote if he stands as an independent which should result in a fairly comfortable win for Labour.

But we need to hear from him or the police about his case and if it has been dropped or going to court.

Mr Elphicke and his family certainly do, the Dover (and Deal) voters arguably do, but the interest of others, including of those who do not use their ballot paper in any case, smacks to me of voyeurism.

Well said Button
The top Tories and definitely the Chief Whip should be made to justify their actions against Charlie, the way they behaved, especially by "loosing" important documents has always struck me as a personal vendetta against him.

Latest from Charlie.
Recent weeks have been a powerful reminder of how many people in Dover and Deal go the extra mile to make a difference. These community champions are making a massive difference – changing the lives of people around them vastly for the better.
Take James Salmon from Dover Sea Safari. In his spare time he's been working tirelessly to transform the quality of life of disabled people with his team of fellow volunteers at Wetwheels. This is an amazing project which gives disabled people the chance to go out on the water in specially-designed power boats. The inspirational founder of Wetwheels is Geoff Holt MBE, the first quadriplegic to sail around Great Britain and across the Atlantic Ocean. Yet even he was stunned by the efforts of James and the Dover team. Everyone should have a chance to enjoy being on the water. This is now a reality for so many more people.
In Deal, Tracy Carr runs the Talk It Out group to support people suffering mental health challenges. I cannot begin to guess how many lives she's saved and how her incredible work has taken pressure off local health services. We recently learnt that nearly 150 youngsters in Kent are waiting more than a year for mental health treatment to start. That makes the work of volunteers like Tracy even more vital. When I visited the group last month, one of the members told me: "When it comes to mental health, pills aren't the answer. Groups like this get people better – it's as simple as that."
Earlier this year, Facebook was full of reports about the disgusting state of the King Street public toilets. So Darren Gregory-Foster of local cleaning company Channel FM swung into action to clean the loos for free – because he cares about the town he grew up in. Local business people and firms like this who have great community spirit deserve our backing. And probably the cleaning contract for the toilets too!
Back in Dover, it's a similar story. Entrepreneur Victor Evans is determined to make his hometown the best it can be. With the help of council grants he has transformed a derelict area of Lorne Road.
He has built an amazing brewery and micropub, making and selling tasty ales. And he has also constructed five houses and seven flats by the river on the brownfield site opposite.
Victor tells me he wants to give something back to Dover. When people want to invest in our area and improve it, we must give them our full support.
Tracy, Victor, Darren and James are just a few examples of local people going above and beyond. I know there are so many others working tirelessly to make a difference in Dover and Deal. So if you know someone who is making a difference, please let me know. I would love to visit them and tell everyone about the work they are doing to improve people's lives. I'm determined to do everything I can to back our incredible community champions.

Saved me about 6 visits to Margate or Ashford Brian so I'm not complaining, 3 procedures, 1 consultation and two trips to Audiology.

I'm genuinely pleased for you, Howard. But wouldn't you have been able to make the same visits when the old hospital was there? Unfortunately for me, I'm in the opposite camp. Have to go to either Margate or Ashford for my ailments which is so much more inconvenient and expensive.
Buckland is not a shadow of its former self. My parents both died there and my son was born there. Now I'm getting old, I realise what a poor excuse for a medical facility for a town of Dover's size and demographics it has been allowed to become.

I don't know the chronology of the rundown of the previous hospital Ray as I first visited a friend in the birthing unit in 2007 and that seemed to be only active part. Plenty of signs to various departments that were boarded up and our previous MP showed no interest in its demise. Back in January the most common procedure on the NHS - cataract surgery was moved from Margate to Buckland saving 6 long journeys for each patient. I understand that it has been moved away but despite asking the local NHS and Charlie I have been unable to find out why.
Just as an aside the Minor Injuries unit does a lot more than its name suggests, setting broken bones etc so much so that ambulances are taking road accident victims there when paramedics decide to.

it's sounding like things are hotting up
I'm hearing callum the dover town councillor is being pushed to be a conservative candidate
sounds like not much loyalty there
so has the local association heard something we are unaware of? is charlie going to be put out to pasture?
If it comes to Charlie being sidelined labour will romp home
callum a nice person but not up to being an MP
if Charlie is sidelined and stands as an indy it will split the vote

I can see the logic Keith, the Charlie issue is dragging on and a General Election could be called any time. Charlie must be certain to stand on his record as an Independent and is likely to get more votes than the official candidate leaving Charlotte a fairly free run at it.

I see that Charlie has voted against the amendment to keep us in the Customs Union this evening.

If Dovers MP wants to stay the local MP he must come out in the open about what they are saying he done, and the reds will not get back in Dover again for many years even if the blues do not make it up with Charlie, but I think he will go back in the blue party soon, once the case against him is dropped. But it is wait and see time.
