The winner had 5.63% electoral support, the loser 5.43%.!

Almost as bad as 'the winner had 95% of the vote from some repressive regimes'?

Problem is why vote? Candidate A will spaff it all away on grande failing projects, squirty fountains in Market Sq, those sitty downy things in Castle Street, whilst Candidate B will invest in imported (from Croydon) steel bands into Pencester Gardens, at great expense, to remind the local winos that they are racist.

When I was on Deal Town Council we were actually in charge of four things.

    Toilets (sub contracted to DDC.

Allotments (so screwed up it had to be taken into private session).

Saturday Market ( impossible to screw up with all the dfl).

    Flower baskets/planters.

    That's it.

Meanwhile we had a cycle initiative (extra staff and in direct competition to local cycle hire company), usual Fair Trade initiative, carbon free crap etc.

Perhaps councils should just concentrate on providing the best services at the lowest cost and just leave people alone people might vote for them?
