    The two main parties take turns on making themselves unelectable, in the 80s it was Labour until the end of the decade then it looked like the Tories would be the ones. They saved their skins by getting rid of Thatcher and replacing her with John Major who won them the 1992 election by not being his predecessor. Blair then came on the scene with a landslide in 1997 and the Tories kept putting up lacklustre leaders against him. Once Cameron became leader Labour has been seen as unelectable up until a few weeks ago. II think that David Davis is the safest bet as leader for the Tories, I don't see any other alternatives.
