07:2731155There's lots of ways DDC can support local businesses.
They may not be able to help much on rent/rates, although there is the discretionary or hardship fund they can apply for and there is as reasonable tub of money put aside for that.
There is also moral and financial support for a local Dover Business Support body (part of the Dover Chamber of Commerce) which will help Dover and the businesses here on many aspects and levels.
I've drawn up a list of "things to do" and areas of responsibility that such a body should be working on.

07:4631157Correct Roger and all credit to DDC with the hardship fund.
The Dover Business Support body is happening as you said though I am as frustrated with progress at the moment as you no doubt are.

08:5531165I am puzzled by your comment Keith.
You are not involved in running a business in Dover and you are involved in business support or any of the key bodies working on this matter.
So why would you be frustrated? It does not touch on the general public at all.

22:3431549In response to the comments about the ideas of me starting a business i think the prospects off doing so is great but its starting off thats hard.
My future desired career is to be an ict technician or mechanic.
I am really looking for some way to learn more about computers i do lots of computer study at home building and refurbishing computers, but i would really like to work with someone who knows more about computers, even if i had to do volunteer work in a computer repair shop.
So if anyone knows of someone who has volunteer work going or something please let me know :)
In response to Dave1 me and my friends have hardly much to do in Dover, its usually either going to connaught park and playing tennis, going into Pencester and going in the skate park, or going over to Canterbury as there is more to do over there.

19:0531624Hi there Joshua. If I was one of those rich people I saw on the tv a few years ago, who gave money to worthwhile causes, I`d gladly offer you some dosh to get started, as you sound a very genuine cause. Good luck mate.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

20:3331641Sad to hear about Semma4. I've only been in there a couple of times to get camping kit for Reading, but I didn't escape on either occasion without chatting pleasently at length with the guy behind the desk.
You don't get that online!
I like the sound of the quirky shops that Bern suggests, and I'd also support the idea of widespread relocation. I simply can't believe that pensioners rely on the shops along London Road. I know the area very well btw, I've lived off London Road all my life.
