11:2979417Jan, Dover Port is our Gold mine, the Town and District need revenues from it, and it must not go bankrupt either. Vic is right in stating that the Port will go bankrupt if either of the two proposed plans on the front page goes ahead.

11:4679421Alexander -that really is bunkum in all respects.
The Port has done Dover no favours at all over the years.
As for saying it would go bankrupt - you really do not know what you are talking about. The data for that claim is non-existant.

12:0179425It's an economic certainty that the Port would go bankrupt if sold, Barry. the ferry-operators would be put out of business, because in order to build a T2, a private owner would significantly increase port dues. DHB has already stated that port dues must be increased in their privatisation plan, and the ferry-operators are totally against this! The ferry-operators at Dover are already approaching local bankruptcy. Seafrance is in debt of over 100 million euros!

12:0379426The ferry operators claim that DHB has taken from them port dues in the past to build T2, but then did not destine that money for T2. That explains partly why DHB has over 55 million pounds in savings!

12:1879428Guys (Vic and Alexander) the Bankruptcy claim is just wild speculation and anyone could say that about almost anyone or anything. I see Vic has made that statement about bankruptcy on the frontpage too. As BarryW says there the data just doesnt exist for such a claim. Im not sure if this is a UKIP statement or what the source is, but you would need to back up such a statement with hard facts otherwise its just wild and wooly stuff.

the ferry companies are throwing their weight behind the peoples port plan.
they would only do this if it is beneficial to them.

14:4379456THE FACTS have been told ,but it is the source mainly and sorry at this time or even ever I can not say ,and I wish I could but no it is not from UKIP I can tell you that. But like most things like this the person or persons do not want their names given out.

16:1179462It's not a UKIP statement, Paul, and though I don't know who the financial expert is who Vic has spoken to, I do know that bankruptcy would be very probable if Port privatisation went ahead, on the basis of figures that have been presented and through local press coverage over the year concerning the ferry operators at Dover. DHB know full well that no private owner could cover all the finanical burdens of ESOT, PDCT, T2, and the expenses to maintain Eastern Docks (see front page figure given by DHB), without drastically increasing the port-dues, which woud end in diverting much trafic to the Channel Tunnel, which has a capacity that could absorb all Dover Port's traffic!

16:1379463If we play the wrong card now, it could mean the end of Dover Port! Once a company like Sea France were to go bankrupt, it would be the end, as th eother ferry lines would follow suit for the same reasons.

16:2679464I have heard a lot of rubbish on here about the docks, and bankruptcy is the worst of them... why would someone invest their millions in something that the 'financial experts' on here will be bust within 5 years.....
If someone cannot make a profit from 14 million passengers, 3 million cars and 2 million lorries then something is seriously wrong!!

16:5379470i find it hard to believe that the tunnel could handle all of dover port's traffic.
in the eventuality of sea france ceasing to trade then all the other ferry companies would mop up the business that they were carrying.

16:5479471Seafrance fails because of all their strikes... I have never used them as they never have the flexibility and reliability of P&O

17:0879473All this is Paul is the last desperate attempt from the dinosaurs to stop Dover Port progressing - you can tell they are on the run when such daft groundless stories get made up.
