Staggered to find this glamourous beast outside rear window this morning. Anchored in the outer harbour in the mist. I had a tip through from Jan T that it is actually called Octopus and is owned by none other than Paul Allen co-founder of Microsoft. So quite a celebrity vessel. Hard to convey how big this is..it looks like motor launch shape but on a massive scale. Well you have to spend all that dosh on something!
Type in Octopus on BING and you get all the details on Wikipedia and others.
At the time of its construction it was the worlds biggest superyacht...now standing at 12th biggest, according to Wikipedia.

Fascinating Tom and it has now washed up in Dover of all places. Never a dull moment.

You can track it on the marinetraffic.com website. Her last port of call was the Panama Canal, I suppose she has come from the US west coast to give her owner somewhere to stay while he enjoys Dover 's famous night life.

They are clearly looking in onboard...because immediately after Howard put up those pictures they took off to check out the fab nightclub shown...

Ah...Octopus is gone. In a matter of moments she slipped silently out of the Eastern entrance..perhaps preferring the nighlife in Deal!!
But seriously though was great to see such a vessel and to capture a few pics for the forum. She left at 11am.

probably all for the best paul, if they had turned up scruffy they would not have been let in.

Amazing to see Octopus in Dover Harbour.
An article in yesterday's Sunday Times included her in a list of superyachts expected to take up berths in Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf and the Royal Docks in East London for the Olympics.
Eclipse, one of the world's biggest superyachts at 538 ft long and owned by Roman Abramovich is also expected.
We actually saw Eclipse in Barcelona last week. Wonder if she will pay a visit to Dover as well!

Saw this yacht hanging around about 2 miles from south foreland lighthouse for a good 50 mins while I walked alOng the cliffs late morning. There was a helicopter flying very low over maybe it belonged to that?

"I wish!"???
A playground rather than a hive of industry? A 'private' fiefdom where money is King?
Ah well Roger. If or when the land-yachts moor upon the Western Heights you may well get your wish.

A hive of industry? Yes, if tax avoidance is an industry.

I was meaning that I wish Dover was the kind of place where people with big yachts and lots of money want to come and moor their boats for a while and do some serious spending in Town.
