Thank you Paul, it's a failing of mine.

Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

No David, we haven't achieved World-Class status for Dover - yet.
With section 215s being worked on, the buildings will be improved.
When decisions on the Port's future is determined, perhaps the Western Docks/T2 could be worked on (unlike others, I do believe the Western Docks/T2 should be started asap so that it will be completed soon after Calais development - Calais know how to access EU funding, something that we don't seem to have learned yet, so we can equal their capacity or we will find less will come through Dover, instead of more).
The Landbridge and Cable car completed
DTIZ up and running.
Western Heights/Farthingloe development
Connaught Barracks site
When these are all complete, we'll be pretty close to it. To achieve the above, some brave decisions will need to be made - by planning officers and the Planning Committee.

I am absolutely fed up with the petty sniping that is going on time to grow up boys.

It is true David that I am a member of the Planning Committee and I have voted for every major (potential) planning application, so I have not held anything up. Sometimes people have to see the bigger picture or we won't/don't go anywhere but stagnate; I must be honest that some people do get bogged down in minutia and sometimes the devil is in the detail.
Section 215's are now being worked on and letters issued - so progress is being made there.
The Western Docks/T2, Landbridge and Cable Car are all in the hands of the Gods (or should I say the "Decisions Minsister) and none are dependant on DDC.
As Paul (Scotchie) has said, bore holes and work has already started on the Hotel, so DTIZ is (albeit slowly) now moving ahead.
Western Heights/Farthingloe - we''ll see a new plan quite soon; no blame can be put on DDC
Connaught Barracks I believe is with a Government department to decide its future, but is (again, slowly) moving forward.
DDC cannot/should not, give developers carte blanche to do as they wish, but an intelligent/pragmatic approach must be the order of the day; we want inward investment, but also it has to be the right sort, the sort that is good for Dover.

Have to disagree with you there, Roger. Dover does not neeed T2 for at least a decade, if ever, and to build it now would just be to construct a white elephant consuming resources and duplicating the capacity in the Eastern Docks. Dover is in a much more fortunate position than Calais in that all the piers have been extended to handle the largest ferries using the port and nothing larger is contemplated for a great many years to come. Calais is limited by the fact that all their berths are in a long line and cannot be extended. A few years ago the port almost shut down when one berth was out for maintenance and another one had a catastrophic failure. The Calais Port 2015 project will see an additional port being built out into the sea and they will then be able to handle all the ferries currently in service and any future larger ones should that ever happen, plus a cruise berth and extra cargo capacity. Basically they are playing catch-up.

#26, David, Keith also thinks I am a Tory. He only dropped his public assertions on the subject when I got very cross with him and reported his posts as harrassment. Take no notice. It's not his fault he bears a striking resemblance to a figure who has been in the news recently.

What you say about Calais and the berths there may well be true Ed. but I understand that they are accessing EU funds to also build a massive rail-head there to match the freight traffic that will be coming through from the railways that stretch back to China.
The Western Docks/T2 is more that ferry berths, with cafes, restaurants, retail and apartments - and connecting it all, will be the land-bridge.

Well then, I leave it up to the moderators to decide, none of us has any control over the face we were born with. Methinks Howard at least realises my tongue is at least half in cheek.
Reg and Keith, if you think that was offensive you are well and truly two paid-up members of the PC brigade. Personally I find being labelled a tory or a 'closet' equally offensive.

Closet or not, we need a T2 to cater for Port freight traffic to connect to the rail lines, as Calais is also doing.
