They do have their uses, which JHG mentioned a while ago.

I hadnt realised how these new bins have impacted on Folkestone rd in particular , even though I had read peoples comments on here. But today I saw for myself how awful they look when they are all standing in the front yards or on the pavements outside the houses which are devided up into bedsits or flats . It reminds me of looking at the back of Hospitals where all the clinical waste disposal units are stored . There has to be a better way of implimenting this sysytem for these areas , it really is a blight . I know that the basement flats are qhite dark any way , with this ammount of bins outside each house the light getting into the bottom flats must be nearly non existant .

Sarah, hospital waste you are bang on there.
Funny 'cos these things are inflicted on us all by eu legislation to do with the percieved problems of landfill, the environment and all that tosh.
There was a programme on this evening telling us all about the decline of the west and the rise of China and other developing nations. I watched five minutes and found myself instantly depressed. After all it's nothing I've not known for the past twenty years plus.
What did occur to me was the fact that with all the economic problems we face, the economic threat to our future and the battle which will ensue between us and europe (or how France and Germany want to destroy us) all we have as an answer is wheelie bins.
That's it! Wheelie bins. We are saving the planet and the rest of the world will follow.
Wheelie bins.
Wheelie bins. That's all this country has to offer.
Wheelie bins.

at least they take the pressure off the big screen in market square, now we have a new target for our disgruntlement.
Philip , your post made me laugh I can imagine loads of us sitting in living rooms across dover muttering " Wheelie Bins ,Wheelie Bins " like a mantra of depression
