The gardens must also back onto each other unless there is an alley way.

Our garden did look like that Marek - (cheeky bugger), but Jean and I didn't.

No other info other than it is Charles Harris of London Road and he was there for donkeys years so doesn't help narrow it down !
Been nice knowing you :)

THE Charles Harris? Our premier early 20th century group photographer? His photographic studio was at 77 London Road, not that that helps very much. Or does it?
Certainly looks like there Paul

Yes that is the chap, have quite a lot of his stuff, he must have been busy. He was here from 1899 to 1938 so don't help narrow the dates down on his stuff !!
Been nice knowing you :)

Paul #24. nice picture of my house there, the one in the middle with the square extension.
I thought that row in the original picture was like ours. Trouble is the garden is a lot lower than the present Girls Grammar courts which are 6ft to 8ft above our back garden. The GGS is up the hill from us so sorry I do not think the mystery has been solved.

Ah :(
There are some similar blocks around your way so I think I will take a snoop around at the weekend - think they are all part of the 'Crundall Estate"

As soon as I saw the photo I thought it looked like the back of Albany Place. Now demolished, behind the old sea training school.

That must be the front, as it looks like the photo has been taken from higher ground. i.e.the hills

The elderly gent in Paul's photo looks a bit like Mr E.Worsfold Mowll in this one, below, LEFT. Man on right is Mr Crundall.
The 2nd photo below is a photo of the Mowll family - much later - but do you think the very elderly lady is the same one in Paul's picture ? They have similar features.
Bob thinks this group photo COULD be in Salisbury Road or near.

How about Heathfield Avenue? This photo is from 1939 - row in centre.

On an aside, thank you for posting the Mowll photos Kath, wonderful. As you know I have done a lot of research on Arthur Beresford Pite who was married to Mary Kilvington Mowll.

Not the Frith Road end of Salisbury Road the steps are too near the path, assuming that is the path where the photographer is standing, for either side of the road.
The think lady has a more pointed jawline than the one in Paul's picture. What is the hat/helmet the gentleman is holding?
